There's a songthrush I pass on my walk to work in the morning that sings his little heart out so beautifully it makes ME swoon, so if he hasn't got all the laydee songthrushes flocking to mate with him there's no justice in the world.

this was way more prevalent when i was still on tiktok but it feels like people are getting really weird about alcohol, coffee, anything that might make you happy--even in innocuous amounts! feels like we're re-engineering puritanism as a method of maintaining control (over ourselves, each other)
starting to feel like there's a direct relationship between the growing obsession with lifestyle hygeine (no drinking, no caffeine, no sex, obsessive working out and looksmaxxing) and the inability to meaningful moral stands on issues of actual import

I learned German at school and it was a brilliant stepping stone into Russian and the Nordic languages. UK has a particularly odd attitude to language learning, where it is viewed as some kind of rare talent, rather than a necessity as the rest of the world sees it. Colonial legacy doesn't help.

One has to ask if it was fair to allow Vonn to compete. For her own sake, obviously, but one has to feel sorry for all the competitors that were due to follow her and are being held up, with conditions changing. Presumably she passed a fitness test, and anyone can crash, but still. #WinterOlympics
