📢 Going to uni in September? Already got a student bank account?

💷 Here are some tips for switching and choosing an ethical bank. Ignore those 'perks' and choose something that aligns with your values!

🕊️Check out our bank switching resource for more information: buff.ly/qFxoWOL
On a white background, images related to banking surround text on a green smudge which reads: Tips for choosing an ethical student bank. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The title on a green smudge reads: what to avoid. The body of the text reads: look out for 'perks' from high street banks. Many of the big banks will have perks to draw you in, whether this is railcards cash or discounts. There is then a table which shows banks, their perks and their ethical concerns Text reads: if you're with one of the UK's major banks- barclays, santander, natwest, lloyds bank, halifax- you should consider switching- The ethical consumer guide. The text reads Here are a few examples of ethical banks which offer student accounts. Nationwide is a building society which is not only ethical but offers a couple of perks for its student current account. The co-op also comes in the top three of the ethical consumers guide, and offers student accounts. Under the co-operative bank logo it reads: Regularly polls customers and stakeholders for a customer led ethical policy. Has a customer union that holds the bank to account: Save Our Bank.
Committed to not financing fossil fuels.
Works to protect human rights and equality, both in the UK and abroad.
Interest free over draft
One year to pay off your overdraft after you finish your course, without any interest. Under the nationwide logo it reads: £100 cash. Just Eat vouchers (worth £120 a year).
No charges for using debit card abroad
Second place in the ethical consumers guide to current accounts.
Building society not a bank
Pays all its employees a living wage.

Disability Access Toolkit for Communities | Student Christian Movement
The Church has often struggled with disability inclusion, thinking only of access needs as an afterthought, only for specific disabilities or, sometimes, not at all. Because of this, many disabled…

Last year for #DisabilityHistoryMonth we ran a pop-up campaign of Honest Church all about disability access for communities. As part of this, SCM's Access and Inclusion Rep, Sorrel, created an access toolkit for SCM communities, to help them look at and improve their inclusion of disabled members ⬇️

If one part suffers, the other parts suffer with it: An update on the SCM Disability Campaigns Group. "In SCM we have many disabled members, as well as members who are carers. We are also, as a movement, inspired to work for social justice. To this end, we recently created a Disability Rights Campaign group. Our original aim for the group was to campaign against the PIP and Universal Credit bill that was proposed to significantly reduce support available to disabled people, but I hope that we can continue to work as a group to support each other and to work on other causes as they come up." At the bottom of the page are two simple illustrations, one showing a brown woman with a prosthetic leg pushing another brown woman in a wheelchair. The other illustration shows two pale yellow people using a megaphone and shaking their fists. "Over the last few months, before the now-renamed Universal Credit bill was passed, we worked together to write two open letters, to Liz Kendall (Secretary of State for Work and Pensions) and Rachel Reeves (Chancellor of the Exchequer). We explained our concerns about the Green Paper released in advance of the bill, and our objections to the proposed bill itself, in both practical and faith-based terms. We also shared some personal stories from members regarding how the proposed cuts would affect us." Two illustrations show a "hidden disabilities" lanyard, and two pale pink people holding a placard and a megaphone. They look to be on a protest. We are glad that the small part we played in the overall campaign against the cuts has contributed to the changes to PIP being removed from the bill and set to be reviewed. However, we are disappointed and concerned that the cuts for new disabled claimants of Universal Credit were passed, as this will seriously impact some of the most vulnerable disabled people and families in our society. Personally, I’m very glad that we have been able to bring this campaign group together, and I hope we will continue to live out our faith through working to support each other and disabled people more generally.
