It just occurred to me that the "students of Robert E. Webber to students of Robert F. Taft" pipeline could be a real thing.

My atheists / agnostic friend who did not grow up in any form of Christianity just said β€œA lot of the bible sure seems to read like an obituary for empire” and I almost just hollered in tongues.

As someone who works in the publishing industry, this situation makes me so angry and so sad.
Private equity destroys 200-year-old book distribution company that libraries around the country rely on and now libraries are having trouble getting new books:

Libraries Scramble for Books After Giant Distributor Shuts Down
Why it might have been and may continue to be harder to get new releases from your local library.

That's too much of my life for me to care to continue in this manner.
Does anyone else feel like they have wasted like 1-3 hours of every day of the past 20 years of their life on "social media"?

No, just me? 'K' cool, cool.

if you're gonna be that way, I shall quote Woodie Guthrie:

"There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me;
Sign was painted, it said private property;
But on the back side it didn't say nothing;
This land was made for you and me."
Post from 10 years ago β€”

5 year old self: "I love Play-Doh!"
15 year old self: "I despise Play-Doh."
25 year old self: "I despise Plato."
30 year old self: "I love Plato."
My child proceeded to pronounce "Origen" and "Plotinus" impeccably.
"What's thaaat?"
"The Collected Works of the philosopher named Plato."
"Play-Doh?"
"Nope, Plā-to."
"Plāto?"
"Yes, Plato."
Which is not to say it is so simple as "we get to judge everyone and their decisions." Rather I mean that when something is evil, it is often patently so.
Evil cannot be cloaked, but neither can Goodness.
It's a blessing, a very specific collation of my intellectual and spiritual interests. I never buy a book I don't plan to read more than once.
I actually don't own the latter two (outside of the Sayings of the Desert Fathers by Benedicta Ward or Tim Vivian). But yes, I return to the Philokalia rather often.
I'm like halfway through it then I put it down for some months.
And yet I believe God will renew all things, including this land which capitalism and colonialism have ravaged.

I suppose the answer depends on one's lived experience, and on one's theology. What I mean is something like an Augustinian/neoplatonic vision of what "home" means, could yield a restless pilgrimage toward "that heavenly country." The privileged get too comfortable in their wealth.
Josh, have you ever read Franny & Zooey? I bought it and started it but never got very far. It has discussion of hesychasm and the Jesus Prayer, much less than The Way of a Pilgrim, though to be sure in narrative.
"By the grace of God I am a Christian man, by my actions a great sinner, and by calling a homeless wanderer of the humblest birth who roams from place to place. My worldly goods are a knapsack with some dried bread in it on my back, and in my breast-pocket a Bible. And that is all."
Every so often I return to the proem to quote that famous line, something about,
Nevertheless it was hugely influential on me and my "spirituality."
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the land."
