Where do you want to go personally and professionally? Who do you want to be when you get there? Our decisions and priorities today determine where we are headed and the person we are becoming along the way.

Long-term planning without the short-term can affect your velocity delaying your arrival if you arrive at all. Be prepared adjust one or both at times based on new information, opportunities, or challenges.

Keep your destination in mind and be open to new directions. Short-term planning without the context of the long-term will keep you busy and productive, but is unlikely to get you were you want to go.

The path to your destination is rarely straight which means that there will be times your direction does not appear to align with your destination. For example, to travel to Northern California from Southern California (destination) on highway 1 you will travel south (direction) at times.

Planning often involves near-term and long-term goals and objectives. I often think of the differences between these as direction vs. destination. Direction is where you are oriented today (near-term). Destination is where you are headed (long-term).
