He did well on Breaking Points too. His story about joining the military after being anti-Iraq War resonated me; I had some friends in high school who were the same and still ended up joining for economic reasons.

It makes me wonder if there have been any resolved cases of American citizens applying for asylum abroad over the past 8 months. I think there should be a fairly strong argument in those cases that the US is not "safe" for a wide variety of minority groups.

This just makes me think about "gay mainstreaming" in general...maybe part of being queer is that we get to live a different life type of life than heteros, and don't need to fit ourselves into their models of social life.

To me, this is one of the strongest arguments for independence right now - we need the right to set our own immigration policy that both protects asylum seekers and meets the economic need of California.
