it’s SO good, probably my album of the year
scoured.bsky.social
hell yeah! I’m not home right now so I can’t give an exhaustive list but off the top of my head from this year, Am I in Trouble, Agriculture, Alicia Cordisco, and Gonemage have put out some great stuff

yeah, it's definitely daunting - there's resources out there to get an at-a-glance idea of what bands are okay but none of them can ever be perfect. it's a great genre to get into and a lot of it is well worth the effort though!

this has been such a great year for unique black metal by actually good people
scoured.bsky.social
the fact that they have literally four album names that they’ve used at least three times each is both so funny and so annoying
scoured.bsky.social
love when the improvised placeholder solo ends up being so sick that you just use it in the final song without even rerecording it

I've largely taken 2025 off for putting out music but 2026 will be the year I truly show what I can do as a songwriter

got a first-draft master for another song from the Retrofit album and folks, this is gonna be so good

might try and push the other guys to release the first two songs as teaser singles or something, I just want people to hear these and don't want to wait

Agriculture? if so, can confirm it's real good

two weeks until the yearly LOTR marathon, I am very excited
scoured.bsky.social
hell yeah, unbelievably excited for act 3

another friday has arrived, so here is a chart of music I listened to this week
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
    OutKast - Aquemini
Prince - Sign O' The Times
Slipknot - Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses

Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite
The Protomen - Act II: The Father of Death
Bolt Thrower - Realm Of Chaos: Slaves To Darkness
    Boris - Pink

    Agriculture - The Spiritual Sound
Prince and the Revolution - Purple Rain
Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious
    Vanessa Funke - Requiem

Dead Kennedys - In God We Trust, Inc.
    Opeth - Deliverance
Dream Theater - Images and Words
    Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
scoured.bsky.social
that's exactly the range I'm looking at and yeah, it's still a masterpiece
scoured.bsky.social
Deliverance is probably the least perfect album in Opeth's insane run but goddamn that title track really is one of their absolute best
scoured.bsky.social
regardless of your opinions on Slipknot, it fucking rules that they've taken albums full of blast beats to legitimate mainstream success

I am listening to Outkast's 1997 masterpiece Aquemini

I have the exact opposite problem where I instinctively pronounce every Lebanon, Reading, Lancaster, etc the PA way since that’s what I grew up with
scoured.bsky.social
truly feels like a band trying to push past their breaking point, it rules so much
scoured.bsky.social
few things get me more hyped in extreme metal than when the drummer can't quite go fast enough so everything awkwardly slows down
scoured.bsky.social
hell yeah, I love how punk that one is
scoured.bsky.social
probably not surprising, considering my noted love of very fast or very slow metal over midtempo stuff
scoured.bsky.social
most people correctly love late Bolt Thrower but I have such a soft spot for their early grind-influenced albums, especially Realm of Chaos
scoured.bsky.social
you should also be listening to Prince.

I am listening to Prince.
