Senator representing Virginia's 16th District. Parent of three pretty cool kids, teacher of the Constitution, Democrat, and #Henrico homer.
Data centers will pay their fair share. And citizens will get relief.
Virginia’s largest utility, state regulators and lawmakers say the measure would immediately drop residential bills by about $5.50 per month.

@scvanvalkenburg.bsky.social thanks Obenshain for making the point for this bill: Obama *did* deport all those people, legally, constitutionally, without violating laws. So it can be done and there's no reason for the way Trump's ICE is doing it, and we should hold them to that.
Sen Obenshain says because Trump hasn't actually successfully deported as many people as President Obama did, we should all just chill about ICE violating peoples' constitutional rights to due process and openly abducting and murdering people in the streets.

I’m glad to see Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones taking on Big Tech and enforcing the provisions of my bill from 2025, SB 854.

This bipartisan legislation is common sense--good for kids and creates a more healthy culture around social media.

I love this guy! We are all going to miss Senator Ebbin @adamebbin.bsky.social in the Virginia Senate.

I’m sad he’s leaving the chamber but excited to see his work in Governor Spanberger's administration.

Also, very excited he’s moving to western Henrico and going to be my constituent--let’s go!

If you want to see how unpopular the Trump Administration’s un-American, anti-constitutional actions in cities across the country are, look at this vote.
This vote adds to @salimvasenate.bsky.social bill language to protect our polling places on election day from ICE engaging in "immigration activities," i.e. terrorizing people--espec. naturalized citizens engaging in their right to vote. EXACTLY why the redistricting amendment needs to pass.

After Virginia passes this, we will be 47 electoral votes shy of the 270
needed to change the way we elect presidents forever 🇺🇸🗣️🗳️ #nationalpopularvote
I voted in favor of SB 322 on the Senate floor, the bill to enter Virginia into the interstate compact known as the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote.

We should move into the energy future. It’s good for utility bills, the environment and job creation.
We tend to think of batteries as the ones in our phones. But the real shift is happening at grid scale.

Utility-scale “mega batteries” now have hundreds of millions of times the capacity of a smartphone battery.

Costs are down ~40% since 2024, and capacity in 2024 was 12x higher than in 2020.

It was a privilege to introduce Rev Derwin Hickman from the Senate floor this past Friday after he gave the invocation.

Rev Hickman is the Senior Pastor at Divine World Changers International Ministry in Henrico. His ministry does a lot of good for a lot of people and makes our community stronger!

Yesterday, the Senate passed three of my energy bills.

This legislation lowers utility bills for working people, brings more energy on the grid more quickly, creates jobs for Virginians, and unleashes more business opportunities.

They’re about affordability and building. A win-win for Virginia.

A year later @vademocrats.bsky.social passed expansion and over 700k Virginians were able to access health care as a result.

One of the most important votes I’ve taken in my nine years in the legislature.

And proof that elections do matter.

For most of American history, it was routine to see new cities built out.

To solve our housing crisis and reinvigorate our economy and middle class, it may be worth thinking about how we can make it routine again.
Maybe America Needs Some New Cities

Thank you to Henrico Police Department and Chief English for all they do to keep our community safe!

These are great trend lines!
Henrico saw 13% decrease in crime in 2025, fewest homicides in 60 years
Henrico County witnessed only three homicides in 2025, a drop of about 86% from the 22 it recorded the previous year, according to Henrico Police Chief Eric English. That figure is the lowest number ...
