A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Kickstarter is now live for this tremendous book of new perspectives on Doctor Who's troubled late seventies, including a chapter from me about how the arrival of Star Wars mania in the UK affected Doctor Who - and how it *didn't*. Order your copy now!

1) every year we all get to vote on which classic story gets made into a muppet movie

2) every year you guys make that muppet movie

3) we will ALL go see every one of these

4) you will never not profit from this

5) why are we not doing things this way

Black Series Kyle Katarn action figure? Yes please. (Hoping the Hasbro Pulse website stops randomly cancelling my orders though)

I wasn't expecting to feel as excited about the proper return of DC Vertigo as I am, but just seeing that logo nice and big on those covers... damn that stirs some warm feelings.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I adore LIFEFORCE. Especially this sequence where our heroes head to brief the Prime Minister, realises how badly fucked everyone is and instead of wasting time to help those that can't be helped they just nope the fuck out. Superb.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Just watched the film of Goodnight and Good Luck On Broadway. A work that has gained even more relevance than when Clooney made the movie version. A stunning piece of work. Vital, intelligent, compelling. It's available on digital now. Well worth 90 minutes of your day.

I almost have to wonder if Badenoch is saying half of this bullshit just for the attention because the Tories are dead as a party.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.
