You’re right that this didn’t used to be a partisan issue. The EPA was signed into law by Nixon. I’m not trying to be snarky (really!) but the only reason I can think of is the power of the oil lobby.

I am not one to run around screaming the sky is falling or that Trump is a dictator.

Not every molehill is a mountain.

But a president publicly directing the Justice Department to target his political enemies (and them doing it) is a BIG deal.

This is a great thread. The only way out is through, and no matter how you slice that, it’s going to be incredibly painful for a lot of people who deserve better.

I think what the "we must make sure nothing upsets or discomfits the smol bean middle American" side of this debate misses is that there are huge quantities of human misery and death down both of these paths and all we are doing now is deciding upon whom that misery settles, and when.
