Renewable energy for all.
I had a chat with Sohail Hasnie of Energypreneurs about a whole range of topics around decentralised energy.

I found this article insightful...

The key line from this essay:

And if we do not act now, we may wake up one day to find that democracy was not overthrown in a dramatic coup—but simply deleted, line by line, from the code that governs our lives.

Nuclear update: Flammaville (France) just energised their 3rd reactor at the site. More than 5x over-budget (€19.1B ), and more than 18 yrs from construction start.

If nuclear France takes this long and costs this much - good luck for new market entrants.

Australia (occasionally) has more rooftop solar than it knows what to do with.

While we are working out ways to move load to meet this surplus we also need ways to manage rooftop solar!

The physics of the grid mean that some level of control will be necessary.

Decentralised energy system...

If we are moving to a model where energy is created, stored and used at the local level, we will need some dramatic changes to the way we operate and protect the grid itself.

Dynamic Operating Envelopes will be critical in delivering this future model.
