Delighted to share this one, as it has been on the cards for ages: a conversation with Holly Dicker about hardcore dance music movements and her essential new book on the subject, Dance Or Die: A History of Hardcore. Listen to the conversation via the article below

I once did an interview with Me Scruff about DJing, getting him to give advice (our readers were largely bedroom DJs). How first piece of advice was to know your record collection inside out. Second was “learn how to warn up”. Both excellent pieces of advice

That’s why people like the late JD Twitch were (and are) so good. The one time I got the chance to play B2B with him, my then housemate - a young dj then in his 20s - told me how impressed he was by how much “reading the floor” we were doing when not mixing. I was proud - most don’t notice!

Also, since when has “40s”
= “elderly”? Is the original poster 12 or something?

That and hype for mediocre sets where whoever it is (young or old) just does their thing, cycling through a prepared set list/Rekordbox playlist while not bothering to attempt to read the dancefloor at any point. Generally being able to do that well comes with experience but even then not all get it

Of course they are supported and funded by Turning Point UK. Not content with crashing and burning their own country, American Christian nationalists want to crash and burn ours too. They can do one

That website is…. Deeply weird. Evangelical apps you can download including shopping ones. Never forget to Grift for the Lord!

It’s like a Fash Jesus Army. At least that lot liked dance music, light shows, speaking in tongues, and happy clappy singalongs rather than goose stepping for Jesus

That was very evident on Sunday. Hassled them, pressed and won the ball back a lot first half, became ragged and far too open as the game progressed. Gibbs aside (who has never set the world on fire) there are few fit players who can do the Mattsson/Kenny/Topic roles

Indeed. See also the questions that should be asked about his buddy Nathan “Russian asset” Gill and frogface’s own prior Putin praise. Highlight that he and his cohorts have a long history of being traitorous shitweasels

Marcondes on his day can add some spark (he showed flashes v west vein and we struggled more when he came off), even if just as a sub with 40 mins remaining. We also miss Diallo and his pace/crossing ability

Similar reasons I assume the the lack of scrutiny of Farage and his merry band of utter cretins from large sections of the UK media

Also need the protection a deeper lying midfielder brings as Bristol City are very good on the break - against the Binners they were especially good at this (defend stoutly, cash in when possible to break quickly)

It’s one of those “just win, even a scruffy winner off someone’s backside will do” kind of games. He should stick with the 3 in midfield as that worked (at least until they fired and snake and co came on) but focus on creating more for Sarge. He’s a bit off form but create more and he will score
sellbydave.bsky.social
For what it is worth, my often mentioned Bristol city suppprting housemate firmly believes we will win against them. He says their thin squad is missing too many key players and Manning will do a number on them. Can’t say I’m convinced but we’ll see!

Unpopular opinion but for the first 60-65 mins on Sunday, bar the errors that gifted that lot goals, we were pretty effective - score one of the two or three clear chances we created and it would have been a different game. Last 20 mins was awful and showed the current difference in squad quality

Many of our fans (and to be fair football fans generally) love a good panic/moan. Sure, it hasn’t been good enough but as you say, huge changes + unhelpful injuries means it was never likely we would start quickly. Patience needed (with one caveat: we need to start grinding out wins ASAP)

Nice of you to use a picture of three of Boris Johnson’s 476 kids

You and I know it is a disaster, but Kemi and co still think it is brilliant. Maybe I could have included it but only so many characters available
sellbydave.bsky.social
That Kemi Badenoch Tory conference speech in full: nothing is our fault, even though we crashed the economy; rich people should pay less tax; hate is fine when it is aimed at the “woke”; here’s a load of unaffordable electoral bribes aimed at people that are already wealthy and need zero help.

Good. They should have thought about that before stealing millions of books, copyrighted articles, artworks etc before training their LLMs! Aside from those at the tho, creative professionals often struggle to make ends meet and wholesale theft from AI companies makes it even more difficult

I had to turn 5 Live off as I was shouting at the radio. A killer blend of gaslighting, arrogance, culture war cobblers and an assumption that the electorate has conveniently forgotten the crap her party served up for 14 years.

He’s genuinely repulsive on every level, even by the extremely low standards of the current Tory party. He’s either a corrupt, power-hungry opportunist who sees the benefit (for him and nobody else) of this kind of awful racist rhetoric, or a corrupt, power-hungry racist. Either way, he’s a tool

This. Those who basically just want sugar in drinks that take forever to make, another where we can get simple black coffee/espresso quickly and crack on.

Definitely one they could (but probably won’t) reissue. Same for the first album, which is definitely more of a wavy chill out room dancefloor vibe.

Oh yeah, the vinyl price is nuts. To be honest, I might sell my copy and buy a Cd version instead 😅
