STATEMENT FROM THE PARENTS OF ALEX PRETTI, MICHAEL AND SUSAN PRETTI "We are heartbroken but also very angry. "Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. "I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed. "Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."

Minneapolis delegation to the MN Senate: ICE is a direct threat to the life and liberty of every member of our community and is only bringing chaos and violence.

The agents who participated must be arrested and brought to justice in a transparent and thorough investigation.
Senate Minneapolis Delegation Statement on Person Shot and Killed in Minneapolis by ICE Another person is dead today because of ICE. They must leave Minnesota now. The federal government has lied to the people of Minnesota and to the people of the United States about Operation Metro Surge. It is a direct threat to the life and liberty of every member of our community and is only bringing chaos and violence. The agents who participated must be arrested and brought to justice in a transparent and thorough investigation. Congress must withhold further funding for ICE and use its oversight powers to immediately review the conduct of these federal agents who are showing a blatant disregard for not only constitutional rights, but human life itself.

The tally of constitutional rights violations by ICE agents in Minnesota is staggering, we need accountability.

DFL Senators Bobby Joe Champion and Omar Fateh just announced their bill to enable Minnesotans to sue for civil and monetary damages for constitutional violations by federal agents.

The Native American Caucus condemns the illegal ICE detention of Oglala Sioux relatives and a Red Lake Nation descendant, and interrogation and harassment of countless community members.

Deportation of people who have existed on these lands is not only impossible, it is absurd.

Native Americans are citizens by law, history, and treaty. Letter to US Attorney Calling for Minnesota to be Part of the Investigation Into ICE Killing of Renee Good. In a letter Friday, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy said state officials must have “full access” to evidence and proceedings January 10, 2026. Image of Minnesotans at the Capitol vigil for Renee Good on 1/9/26 US Attorney Rosen, Americans, and especially Minnesotans, are expressing grief, horror, anger, and fear due to the preventable death of Renee Good on January 7, 2026 in Minneapolis – and the role of federal officials in causing her death. The immediate judgment of the circumstances rendered by leaders who are elected and appointed to protect, serve, and represent the people, all of us, is deeply disturbing. It signals to Minnesotans that the investigation into Renee’s death will be biased by those leading it at the federal level, as their own words and reactions have shown. Their judgments contrast with the videos shared by observers and analyses shared by news organizations. This contradiction is harmful, and it is clear there is a need to work to understand and share the truth with Minnesotans. The US Attorney for Minnesota must lead a just, unbiased, and meaningful investigation. To achieve that result, and to ensure the public trusts the outcome, state officials must have full access to the evidence and participate fully in the proceedings. There is no other way to approach this important moment and no justification for straying from that precedent. Minnesotans require, and deserve, a fair and credible investigation. Anything less will undermine not only the validity of the outcome, but the credibility of our justice system. Our founders created a system of due process under the law, of checks and balances to protect that due process and protect individual rights, and a justice system to hold those who violate our laws and safety accountable. Our ancestors spent 250 years working, fighting, and sacrificing to protect those systems and the values behind them. Our parents and educators instilled those values in us, and it is our job, as elected and appointed representatives of the people, to protect them now.
