Defending San Francisco Bay & holding polluters accountable since 1989 baykeeper.org
"The voluntary agreements are an extinction plan," as our lead scientist @jarosenfield.bsky.social describes the state's new Bay Delta Plan.

Endangered species will continue to plummet, more fisheries will shutter, and Tribes & Delta communities will continue to suffer with worse water quality.

One of the biggest threats to California's coast & shorelines happens out of sight along the Bay's floor, where private companies mine sand for profit -- harming wildlife & eroding our beaches.

Just a few inches of sea level rise can throw off tide predictions and exacerbate flooding--something we just experienced with the King Tides.

Great article from @taraduggan.bsky.social 🌊
New: Sea level rise from the past 30 years is not factored into tide charts, which can make a difference when king tides combine with storms like they did last week in the Bay Area.
One very surprising reason Bay Area tide charts were way off during recent floods
The tide charts used in the state and across the country are based on sea levels from roughly the 1990s.

The National Weather Service warns that the tidal level in Monterey could threaten record levels this weekend as king tides, storm surge and waves push up water levels in the Central Coast and Bay Area. Friday and Saturday are forecast to be the most impactful days for coastal flooding. #CAwx
Why this weekend’s king tides could cause coastal flooding in the Bay Area
Forecasters said a rare alignment of astronomical tides and gusty winds could send seawater into streets, parks and other low-lying areas — especially during peak tides Friday and Saturday.

White sturgeon, prized for caviar, have declined so sharply they’re now being considered for state endangered status.

Poaching persists, with some cases tied to organized criminal networks.
With a target on their bellies, can California’s sturgeon survive?
Following up on a tip to the state’s poaching hotline, game wardens in California rushed to a popular fishing spot, Clifton Court Forebay, in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. They’d received a…
