Ok, I work for small charity and all I’m hearing these days is how AI is unavoidable; get on board or get run over. I believe in meaningful work for humans. Is it possible to resist adoption of AI at your company? Anybody doing it? How?

SUSAN WISMER From the Edge one hand firm on dark earth flattened grass the other is hanging sends fingers to touch under the lip call it hag what remains sunrise, lichen, tree trunk, sunrise, lichen, tree trunk, semblance of mountain, rounded cheekbones traced contours: your face, my lips our mouths, how we seek open seawater, dark metal salt for the tongue, volute the shell of your ear pearled singing from the shimmering edge of the world these last years.

As a farmer and engineer, I'm very aware of life cycle. Everything I see comes back to that. Living things and machines both. Every second of the day is filled with heart-rending, mind-exploding clues to some larger mystery. I have no idea what that is. But the clues are so beautiful. Just watching two strangers talking on the street, the way they move their hands, meet each other's eyes or not, the way that the trees near them move in the wind while they talk; it's amazing. We write and direct and paint and sing and try as we will we can only get so close. There's a LOT in the space between us and the thing we're trying to understand. It's like dark matter. King of the Road Newborn shadows jump from the reaching cedars as the truck passes what do you see? Anything you can imagine No cure, yet the sun rises beneath pond ice, above, mallards become smoke. Dreams are mud on the belly of the pony. A squat business park slinks by pulling an empty parking lot behind it. Waking up every day a person, what to do? Stillness is death. Halogen sunrise, flashing red beside the road a sailor's delight, sirens gawked, lip read from a noise canceled cabin and following seas home, mail dropped onto the kitchen table, shoes removed; mail dropped onto the kitchen table, shoes removed; nothing required between your energies and this floor, the road of your people, spooned miles counted in dog nail clicks, the chain of events. Cruising that loop, trying to out-pace the jacked up, bored out, candy apple dignities stroking and roaring, one arm draped on the wheel as if you don't care and the other shawling the softening shoulder of love while the now aged shadows climb back into the trees to sleep above their rowdy wake.
