Thinking Person's Guide to Autism. She/Her. Neutral Good. Earnest AF. Likes cephalopods. Targ herder. “A Vulcan should have a more resilient bladder.” So mamy typos.
So I am watching the series Parks and Rec for the first time, and don't know if Rob Lowe's character Chris Traeger is considered autistic if not canon? Because it is a fascinating variant if so. #autism #Neurodiversity

We all need to treat autistic people like my son with the respect they deserve, and do our best to understand that my son lives a full, happy life and is no one’s cautionary tale. #VaccinesWork, have nothing to do with autism, & protect autistic people too.

Busting Anti-Vaccine Myths While Supporting Autistic People — THINKING PERSON'S GUIDE TO AUTISM
We need to be careful about pro-vaccine arguments when autism is involved—so we don't reinforce negative stereotypes about autistic people.

A reminder that "too much information coming in too fast for an autistic brain to process can lead to meltdowns" applies to autistic people whether they can speak or not, whether they have ID or not. Explaining away this imposed distress as "autistic behavior" is both unkind, and unhelpful. #autism
“My brain takes in so much more information than the person next to me. So, I need time to process that information, & if I don't process it and more is coming in, then I could shut down & implode or just have massive meltdowns.” Chloé Zhao on her neurodivergence:

Here's a better headline for Axios: "How Trump has normalized racism and racist slurs." Why can't some journalists just call a thing what it is? https://loom.ly/hiKWr58

National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people

Great post. And actually for all of us thinking a bit harder, a bit earlier, about what life is for and what gives us value would help all of us lead happier lives. And by "earlier" I mean before we ourselves become disabled, which most of us will if we are lucky enough to live long enough.
Autistic and other disabled people have always been and likely will always be part of our societies, and are valuable human beings who deserve unqualified love, acceptance, and access to supports. Truth from an older article, since I don't write so much anymore:

We have a good life, because we stopped buying into mainstream notions about what happy families look like.

When Massachusetts passed a "millionaires tax" in 2023, conservatives claimed the rich would flee.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

And the reasons why aren’t always obvious.

So please use and share our guide to helping autistics avoid

Absolutely cannot wait to bust down the doors for a drink made by a company whose unionized workers are on strike in a store that doesn’t want to hire minorities anymore.
Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.

The chains are hoping the drink can drum up excitement from customers this holiday season.
