oh? it's been a good long while since i read any Lovecraft but i don't remember a whole lot of Jewish signifiers showing up in that mythos - ofc he was a raging antisemite but it seemed maybe less textually overt than other parts of his racism. i'd be curious to read it!

my full review of the movie is a little less glowing than my review of the props & costumes, but i did enjoy it! just didn't feel like it had a whole lot new to add to the story/genre

and like...this is Nosferatu/Dracula. if it matters anywhere that filmmakers do NOT pepper a lot of faux-Jewish, Hebrew-containing occult imagery into the background, it matters in the Antisemitic Stereotype Monster movie

this prop page on the website of the (frankly amazing) calligrapher DOES unfortunately show a few sefirot diagrams, also without Hebrew, but i didn't notice them in the movie kaligrafnika.com/nosferatu/

the sigil however is a great example of using ceremonial styling without the fetishized Judaism

the Geordi LaForge from Star Trek: The Next Generation meme. finally saw Nosferatu (2024) last night & my absolute favorite thing about it was the props, specifically the occult papers & books which did EVERYTHING i've been asking for from horror movies for so long - period-accurate styling of the paper, ink & drawing/writing, AND zero Hebrew 🙏⚰️🖤
