if you get an EV then you'll still be traffic. only you'll be electric traffic now.

what you _really_ want but just probably haven't come to terms with yet is less time in your life of being traffic, less being in a car.

this requires good, safe biking infrastructure as well as an e-bike for many.
280 million e-bikes are slashing oil demand far more than electric vehicles
E-bikes and scooters displace 4x as much demand for oil as all of the EVs in the world.

the astute reader will recall that this is the carefully chosen cold climate mini split that netted me $291.70 in profit (!) after Xcel’s credit.

update for y'all: Xcel approved my rebate request, for $3,750 as per the math for 20,000 BTU of 5F heat. so this endeavor will indeed have netted me $291.70 profit overall

selling the window heat pump for $90, the resistive heater for $40, + adding in the original costs of those things and I'm even

6 hours labor at $176/hr ultimately. So if Xcel pays out the rebate as it should per the unit’s 5F heat capacity numbers then I’ll have turned a slight _profit_ overall of $291.70.

Much better than a sharp stick in the eye, that

there comes a time

to switch the garage mini split heat pump back to cooling because the hot side of this split-personality Colorado fall days is winning on net

Hopefully the magic of sealant does its thing and no more will need to be done.

In any case I elected for the easy attempted fix: eyeballed the tire (no big screws or the like), pulled the valve stem, pumped two full syringes of Muc Off sealant into it, reinstalled the valve stem, spun it around, and pumped it back up to 40 psi.

I misspoke: forgot I went with (also Schwalbe) Al Grounders on this bike. Perhaps they’re not of the same legendary flat resistance. Hmph

strainers for the chunky stuff, prolly

you'd think it'd be cheaper to just take out an ad or two in some papers in Berlin

got to admire the commitment to the bit, though

By me this week - the happiest thing I've got to report of late, with a glorious trip over the summer to Montreal

is there only one photo of her? why is there a stock photo for some of these options? why is this site such total crap
shikataganai.bsky.social
this array of Lifetouch photo package options for school photos is a huge mess

why does the Digital package have only 2 digital images? why can't I just buy all the digital images? how many images are there anyway? why do these options seem randomly generated by an insane ChatGPT instance?

That’s the first flat I’ve had over 8,000 miles or so on three bikes with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires. I had the commuter bike’s wheels rebuilt as 29er from the stupid stock 26 x 4” setup specifically to run these.

Rare commute this morning on the cargo bike vs the Juiced, as I rolled out of the garage to find a flat tire on the latter!

Pulling off those ear pieces is a bit unnerving, I have to admit

Turns out I’m solidly a M tip ear-size as on there by default (L fits but isn’t comfortable), and my wife is oddly an XS right ear canal and S left. Such asymmetry…

being faculty has some small advantages

like being counted as eligible for Spotify Premium for Students, the benefit for which I passed onto my 12 year old's account

Cargo biked the smol children to Denver Green School for a tour. Can’t beat the convenience of being bike accessible, plus my middle kid liked the school.

random gripe: was behind a BMW X///M on the freeway for a bit. didn't recognize it at all from the rear. recognized it from the side from its badging and the front from its hideous maw

I'd take that if the company provides a car and a dedicated driver as well :-D

in that case a Toyota Century with the wool interior would do, yes

doing a marketing survey for a manufacturer on proposed new features, and saw this

no, no, no. I am not interested in having Teams or the like in my car. nah. just nah.
