Hi to our new followers! It was extremely cool to meet some of you at Worldcon.

Short Fiction Book Club is a collection of nerds who love short fiction. Twice a month from fall to spring (outside of our Hugo Readalong project), we pick a few stories around a common theme and discuss them.

If you're not a cannibalism fan, our next session (ancestral ghosts of people who *weren't* eaten, probably) is October 15: check the thread for details.

You can also join our previous session on baseball stories: www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/co...

Short Fiction Book Club is having our monthly discussion! Stop by to talk about your recent favorites, swap story samples, help us plan future sessions, and be so normal about short stories (or novelettes, an underappreciated story length).

(And check out the theme for our next session, which is so normal, we swear)

Today, Short Fiction Book Club is discussing baseball stories! Come join us for tales of this American (and occasionally Martian) sport.

Our slate:
"Diamond Girls" by Louise Marley
"Arthur Sternbach Brings the Curveball to Mars" by Kim Stanley Robinson
"The Star and the Rockets" by Harry Turtledove

The Flash+ slate:

"Maybe Someday I'll Stop Writing About a House on the Border of a Swamp" by Corey Farrenkopf

"To Kill a Language" by Rukman Ragas

"The Best Way to Survive a Tiger Attack" by A.W. Prihandita

"Everyone Keeps Saying Probably" by Premee Mohamed

Today, Short Fiction Book Club is discussing extra-short fiction: come join us for some flash fiction! These four pieces are a total of 4392 words, but they pack quite a punch, and we're having a great discussion so far.

it looks like the right signature to me! (whether the two uses of A are the same handwriting font size is a different question)

Met several readers at Worldcon who were interested in shorter fiction but just didn’t know where to look for it and who/which stories they might like. It definitely feels like there is an audience, but there isn’t a bridge connecting them to the magazines + short fiction authors they’d love.

Publishers are noting a shift in industry mindset around short stories as readers embrace shorter works, with a number feeling like “something is slowly shifting” and that “there’s a real excitement around stories again” 👇 #BookSky

Our crossover session with the Hugo Readalong project is up! Today we're discussing (most of) the 2017 short story list. Come argue about awards from eight years ago like a person with normal hobbies.

Anyway: hi! We want short fiction recs all the time. The best way to make sure we see them is to drop by the monthly r/Fantasy threads, but maybe we'll start finding recs here too.

(Does anyone have cool cannibalism or "what the fuck (complimentary)" stories to share, for no particular reason)
shortficbookclub.bsky.social
We hang out primarily on r/Fantasy, which is where we met.

This account is (inconsistently) monitored, but we do check notifications when @nineteenadze.bsky.social remembers! The goal for season four is to do stuff like "post announcements on time" and "have a social media presence at all."
shortficbookclub.bsky.social
On the last Wednesday of each month, we have a monthly rec thread. Our latest one is sooner because most of us have never been to Worldcon before and needed to recharge before a real session (thank you @tarvolon.bsky.social for the rescue!). All are welcome:

We absolutely loved meeting you too! Planning the pins and then actually having you sign them was a 10/10 group activity.

slowly coming to realize that we picked our two big yearly spotlight authors so far based on both short fiction writing craft and raw shitposting talent

(hi @isabel.kim, you are very funny also)

one of my wife's coworkers asked if i write children's books. and my wife said no, short stories. and the coworker said yeah, same thing. and my wife does not dislike kids books and thinks they are awesome, but knew this was def meant as a slight. anyway that's about the time she killed someone.

I’m always bummed about this fact:

When I was making book TikToks, I ran similar content back to back, like 5 horror novels you need to read and then 5 horror short story collections you need to read.

The novel post got 30k views. Short stories got 500.

I wish people loved short stories more
