We also thanked Dr Quentin Shaw and Roger Owen for their incredible service as ##trustees — their dedication and expertise have shaped Shropshire's journey.
November brings quieter gardens… but keep an eye out for the shy dunnock! 👀

Small, brown, & often rustling in hedge bases — these “hedge-sparrows” play a key role in garden ecosystems.

🍲 If ducks had kitchen utensils, this one would be your best soup ladle.

Meet the Anas clypeata — the Shoveler #duck with a bill so big it could double as a serving spoon 👩‍🍳

They’re winter regulars in #Shropshire, showing off their green heads. Catch them at Whixall, Wood Lane, or Venus Pool💧

🎃 This #WorldFoodDay, let’s talk pumpkins…

10 million are grown in the UK each year — but most never get eaten 😞 That’s tonnes of food wasted!

Make yours go further:
🍲 Roast for soup or pie
🌻 Toast the seeds
🧴 Try a skin/hair mask
🌿 Compost the rest!

🚫 Don’t dump them — they harm hedgehogs.

Seen a long, green snake near a pond or river? That’s likely the grass #snake (Natrix helvetica) — a master swimmer. 💧

They’re harmless to humans, love basking in the sun ☀️, and can often be spotted hunting #frogs or #toads.

Look for their yellow-and-black collar — the perfect ID clue.
A reminder🔥 The area of deep #peat protected from rotational burning has more than doubled.

👏 A huge win for #nature!

But…some peat is still left unprotected.

That’s why we’re calling for a full ban on burning deep peat. Because #peatlands are too precious to lose.
