Us Icelanders take our Easter eggs VERY seriously. Every egg has a proverb inside it and people share theirs and we discuss the meaning :) But you wanted to know how to say páskar didn't you? It is pronounced POW-scar, pow as in Batman's Pow! and scar as in, well scar, POW-scar. Gleðilega páska!

“Eldgos” is Icelandic for volcanic eruption. It’s pronounced [ELLE-d-goss] - Elle, like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, followed by a soft D (sort of like turning Elle into a past tense verb 🤓) and ends with goss, as in some hot goss. Try it and let me know how you get on in the comments ☺️

The Icelandic word "ísbíltúr" roughly translates as "ice cream road trip". You load up the fam, go get ice cream, and eat it while you drive around. [read]

Stuck at an airport for who knows how long, anyone got any Iceland questions I can answer? If not, this might just be me spouting randoms until my flight eventually leaves or my phone dies.

Random Icelandic: One of my favourite words is “Ógæfuhlið” which directly translates to “the side of misfortune”, which sounds very dramatic! In context it would be translated as “downhill”, i.e. things are going downhill.

Random Icelandic: The word for “king” is konungur, pronounced CON-ooh-n-gr.
