Our government is choosing to endanger vulnerable trans youth in service of insatiable anti-trans zealots by endorsing that they be outed to parents.
Plenty of queer kids are abused by bigoted parents, and plenty of queer adults live today with the scars of abuse they endured.

The UK just proposed new school guidance that effectively bans even social transition for trans students (using a different name, pronoun or haircut). It implements a full bathroom ban while requiring mandatory outing of trans youth if a teacher suspects they are trans.
