& in case Trump hasn’t got the message from his Russian fanboys, the Putin press adds: "It is dangerous for the American president to back down over Greenland. This would weaken the position of the Republican Party in the midterm elections and likely result in a Democrat majority on Capitol Hill.”

Trump's message grousing that the Norwegian government had not given him the Nobel Peace Prize (which of course is not in their remit) was in response to a message from the Norwegian & Finnish leaders urging him to de-escalate. Which is material new information.

Norwegian PM Støre says Trump repeatedly raises—complains about, pleads for, and demands—the Nobel Peace Prize every time they meet. Støre gives same answer each time: decision is made independently by Norwegian Nobel Committee, with no role for Norwegian gov—a concept Trump appears unable to grasp.

The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

Deeply weird and menacing scenes in Minneapolis. ICE agents sat in masks and balaclavas in unmarked, often blacked out cars, watching local residents. They themselves being observed by a network of locals, trying to deter them from mounting raids. Profoundly abnormal.

This person who successfully committed suicide (something which jails are supposed to protect against) was being held at a random Georgia jail through a contract with the U.S. Marshal Service, which let ICE use its network of contracts with local jails. This is not a big detention center.
