I’ve started a YouTube channel called ”Folklore with Marcus” dedicated to Nordic and Swedish #Folklore! My aim is to have a more academic approach to the study of folklore, but this first video is a Short about the Milk-Hare. Check it out if you’re interested! 😈🧌

@simogo.com really just gave me a heart attack. As someone who adores history and folklore; Year Walk is an amazing game!
This Thursday I visited the Institute for Language and #Folklore in Gothenburg and I had a lovely time! We got to know about the tradition of ”Påskkärringen” (The Easter Hag) and transcribed old handwritten documents together with other enthusiasts. Here’s a drawing of the devil by C. M. Bergstrand.

One of the things that's most exciting about writing my book about The Devil in Shropshire is the complexity of these stories. He is more than a stock character. He is a powerful conduit for the fears and attitudes of a community. Through these tales, we connect to our past.

The article linked above is "What Can We Do Today With Old Records of Folk Belief? On the Example of Devil Lore" by Ulrika Wolf-Knuts. Another recommended read is "Folklore epistemology: how does traditional folklore
contribute to children’s thinking and concept development?" by Agbenyega et al.
Currently preparing for my thesis in #history #didactics and reading about applications of #folklore in school. There are many interesting ways to teach about folklore and history; the potential for its implementation into curriculum are plenty!

In #Swedish #Folklore one could undertake the Year Walk around Christmas or New Years to get a glimpse into the future.

The Year Walker was faced with mortal peril from dangerous Vaesen in the night, such as the monstrous Gloson.

Since that “starter pack” thing has never grown on me, here is a list of folklore and history creators (wave in the comment section below
if we are mutuals but I haven’t added you yet) ⬇️

Unlike starter packs, lists can be pinned and used as separate feeds.
My fiancé truly knows me. What else could be a better Christmas gift than books about the devil in #folklore and yokai in Japan?

Merry Christmas! 🎄🌟

I’ve been studying at university for 4,5 years now and by God, some of the group constellations I’ve been forced to suffer through have been its own circle in hell.

In Swedish #folklore, a Spiritus was a small snake, roach, scorpion or the like kept in a small wooden box. It could be conjured using dark magic or be given by Satan in exchange for one’s soul. The Spiritus would bring its owner wealth and magic. It had to be fed with spit every day.
The Swedish museum ”Historiska” is supporting the tearing and burning of 1600s witch trails death sentences by modern witches. A very interesting example of use of history and justification for victims of oppression throughout history. news.cision.com/se/historisk...

Detsamma! Stort lycka till i författandet och illustrerandet. Riktigt schysst art! 👌

Where have you gotten this information? Owls were used to ward away Ghasts or could themselves bring bad tidings; but I’ve never heard of Ghasts presenting as owls. 🦉
Be sure to have loads of potions on hand!
In Swedish #folklore, if a person died a violent death or was buried in unhallowed ground, people believed they’d be transformed into a Ghast after death. The Ghast was a dangerous undead creature that could attack the living by hugging them, making them sick. This was called being gastkryst.

Here’s another of my short educational videos. This one discusses the relationship between human speech and character dialogue, with help from folklore scholarship.
