Most developers, just like most people, don't have good business sense. You can be frustrated by the rat race of Corporate America and try to start your own venture but that doesn't magically give you the wherewithal to do it properly.

Your suggestion makes 100% sense in my opinion.

The Kickstarter for Legacy of Valor starts tomorrow. Anybody else thinking about giving it a whirl? Castle building, large scale battles, and an expansive narrative sounds like a lot but hopefully they can pull it off.

I agree with everything you stated but I also think Pondsmith is in a similar boat because the games are 10x more popular than the tabletop. He could've become resentful and lashed out due to his own genius not serving as the fuel. Instead he fully embraced CDPR.

I didn't expect to fall in love with Lasombra but thematically I think they are going to be AMAZING to play. This will be the clan I use on my first Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 run for sure.

If you really enjoyed Mafia 1 then Mafia 2 is a must play. I really liked Mafia 3 but it's a sharp departure from the first two so you may or may not enjoy it. I cannot speak on the most recent entry.

My understanding is that there are free roam sections but they are EXTREMELY limited. Even more so than the first two Mafia games.

I don't disagree but if money is your goal TOC still doesn't make any sense. From an artistic standpoint I can definitely see the vision but nobody thought that game was going to rake in cash. They would be better off going back to the original formula.
