I think I’ve seen enough political scientists play devil’s advocate on these type of subjects to conclude that the entire field is bunk.
If an instructor wants to impose content based instructions to focus essays on science, then they should. But my read is that this is busy work intended to make sure assignments are read and thought about and little more. So, the prompt was open ended and sloppy and invited this. 🤷♂️
