Mephistopheles/ Old Man Coyote/ "Some other name" As of this animatic, we do not have an idea to who or what this entity is with the exception of these two mentions of these important figures and that Emmanuel made a deal with him for the night creature machine. The commonality between these two figures is that they are tricksters and tie together through people telling stories of these figures as ways to inform people. There's also Old Old Coyote/Huēhuecoyōtl from Aztec mythology who is the god of music, storytelling and deception/trickster who I thought would be good to interweave in to mess with Olrox specifically. "My" interpretation of this shadowy entity is either: 1) Chaos: "borrowing" (or straight up absorbing) other cultures to appeal to different powerful people (either abilities or positions, with specific headspaces to continue growing) 2) Pretending to be a god in a similar vain to Ezerbet Or a mix of both? It's not definitative yet! His role here is to move Olrox through the animatic, so what he is beat for beat is less important then what he represents for Olrox and set forth Olrox's conflict and what he needs to do. I constructed my version to lean into describing every single action like a storyteller, in which for the majority of it is describing Olrox's past, HOWEVER, history tends to repeat itself between fall of Tenochtitlan, Stockbridge Massachusetts and all events in Castlevania: Nocturne. He's unfortunately got a point, however also has agenda. However there is a small percent of it where he is directly conversing with him, rather then reaccounting events. Through other people. "You did not summon me". "My crew are as carefully chosen as the disciples of Christ." "I can tell her what a treacherous little snake you are." "Don't be afraid, Olrox." "We can make dreams into anything." "Another finds their way home." Which, would not be fun if I told you outright what he's trying to imply. Have fun~ After this, he starts talking about what's actively happening in the present moment, before talking about what's going to happen in the future with Olrox. Albeit in the next 30 minutes after this animatic. He's taunting him with past, present and future. This to me creates an interesting set up and allows me to follow the themes of fate, faith/trust, cycles and a whole bunch other things but with my own spin and see where to take it next, should I decide to do a follow up. Tenochtitlan: This is the beginning and also end to Olrox's life, only surrounded by blood red and fire. He's lost everything, including himself. Stockbridge, Massachusetts The colours here are used to showcase not only a "dream of a better future" but foreshadow the transition from Tenochtitlan to present day. Not. Home. After is all said and done, he is yet to return what was before, contrasted to how all the flashbacks are outdoors and yet here he is, locked in melacholy (blue) by four walls and bars (window). It's not a myst animatic unless there's a window and a frame within a frame, especially since I literally have old man coyote mention how 'the serpent cages around him', indictative of how his past traumas cages and also has shaped every single thing he does. I could be way more in-depth but I feel like you can probably guess 90% of being informed of the idea to make Olrox feel trapped and isolated, even in a safe space such as a bedroom. It's also why I never showcase the door out to the bedroom, there's no way out of this but to face him.
