It's unsurprising to me, we've a population the same as or less than most cities worldwide. Also there's been no consistent youth policy at a national level.

I'm like that about everything though, in that I think people and places are important to each other and there was often a deeper connection to a land you drew sustenance from and managed it accordingly and had a slower pace to living. I was born about fifty years late I think.
