This book kept me guessing. Thought it was like Girl on a Train, then I thought it was like Eleanor Olyphant. And then it surprised the heck out of me #booksky

CDC has been a global leader in public health & played a key role in smallpox eradication. Health depts in red states & blue states rely on CDC expertise & support. The CDC EIS program trains the next generation of public health leaders & disease detectives.

They are burning it to the ground.
JAMA Health Forum Oct 9, 2025 by LO Gostin and P Lurie.
Abstract
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has long served as the cornerstone of the US
public health system, combining technical expertise, evidence-based policy recommendations, and high-quality health information. Yet, it is undergoing profound weakening by the Trump administration, including major funding cuts, the dismissal and resignation of experienced senior staff, and the erosion of its scientific independence. With tightening political control, public trust in
the CDC is diminishing. Undermining the agency’s reputation and capacities will reverberate for generations, making the nation less prepared for future health emergencies, including diseases of
pandemic potential. At this perilous moment, we document the current assault on the CDC that will inevitably have serious repercussion

MAGA wants us afraid and divided, but we’re not backing down. Let’s make October 18 the biggest day of peaceful protest in American history: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i... #NoKings
Micah on Bluesky: “they are clearly trying to terrify everyone out of showing up to the No Kings protest and I simply do not think it is going to work

see you all there” Ron Filipkowski on Bluesky: “The No Kings protests have been some of the most peaceful and well attended political assemblies in American history. In fact, MAGA has mocked them as a bunch of boomer grandmothers. Now they are apparently terrorists.” Jon Favreau on Twitter: “A top Republican in Congress just called millions of Americans terrorists.

The last No Kings protests saw 4-6 million people turn out. They were peaceful. They were joyful. There were American flags everywhere.

Those of us who will be participating next weekend in what Emmer calls a "hate rally" for "terrorists" love our country - particularly its promise that we're all created equal, that we all have the right to speak freely, to enjoy equal protection under the law, to believe what we want, and to choose our leaders without fear of reprisal.

The No Kings protests are happening because Emmer and Trump and his regime are trampling on those rights and freedoms.” Leah Greenberg on Bluesky: “"After a few moments of laughter, the No Kings Coalition issued the following statement"”

The president says there are very few stores left in Portland, Oregon, and the ones that are left are made of plywood.

I know we’re numb to this, but in any other time he’d have been removed by the 25th Amendment by now

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

These aren't random lies—they're part of the relatively short runway the Trump administration will use to illegally invoke the Insurrection Act and soon after declare martial law and end our democracy

I'm unsure if we have days or weeks left, but I suspect it's one of those two rather than months

Bondi: "We've been living through a horrific cycle of political violence in this country ... night after night antifa wrecks havoc on the streets of our cities. In Minnesota, a gunman murdered a state lawmaker and her husband."

The campaign against “antifa” is about establishing a beachhead for further attacks on speech and assembly rights. We see that today in the effort to preemptively label No Kings protesters as “terrorists.”

A post-apocalyptic novel that’s not about the end of the world but what the world is like for the survivors long after. Griz is a young teen whose whole world is a remote island. When a trader comes by and steals one of the family dogs, impetuous Griz gives chase, and dives into the unknown #booksky

This memoir is by a writer who turned to food after she was raped as a child, her struggles to survive that trauma as well as the difficulties of living as an obese woman in our culture. Brutally honest and, for anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable in their own body, very relatable #booksky

Everyone can set aside partisanship, psychologizing, pathologizing, whatever, and—I would hope—still see that it’s incredibly dangerous for a political leader to be this disconnected from the real conditions in the country.

Democrats should go on TV to say they need to impeach Trump because of the cocaine-fueled pedophilia parties that he holds in the East Room of the White House with his friends in MS-13.

I mean, if he gets to lie shamelessly, why not them?

This YA novel taught me a lot about Deaf culture: how ASL is its own language, how most Deaf people reject the idea they are broken/need fixing, how technology has complicated that. It was also an engaging story of 3 teens from different backgrounds seeking confidence, acceptance and love #booksky
