the firebombing a walmart tweet is a classic but a lot of people think it means they can expect to live in a democracy without ever being required to do anything more than vote and post. I wouldn't get too comfy!

When the CBP or ICE agent that Stephen Miller is trying to get killed dies, it is extremely important that every member of the media be told, repeatedly and loudly, that they wanted this and that people called it out in advance.

A corollary to this is that they’ll look at something stupid that polls well, like clearing homeless encampments, and be like “oh if we do this people will love us!” Then they do it and people still hate them because the bad policy didn’t solve anything.
Democrats will often look at something that doesn’t poll well and think “oh no, better move away from that!” but they’re getting their role backwards. parties influence public opinion. if you’re purely reactive, you’re just letting the GOP frame every debate.
the lesson of the election isn’t “we should give up on trans rights,” it’s that the GOP took an issue that negatively impacted almost no one and made it a headliner. why would it help to surrender on an issue if they can create a grievance from thin air?
