Posting this take on Bluesky feels like dousing myself in gasoline and getting ready to walk through the spark plug testing lab, but fuck it, we ball:

The assumption that in any abuse of power involving a man and a woman, the woman is an innocent victim is wildly misogynistic.
Really not trying to dunk on this person, but I just don't think invoking power dynamics works here. RFK had no power over Nuzzi.

She was a star national politics reporter and had the power to shape his public image and help install him in office. This is a story of her abusing power, not him.

i’ve started to see some contrarian takes that frame Nuzzi as a victim here and it’s just absurd
I'm sorry but I don't think what Lizza is doing is comparable to revenge porn. Nuzzi has made a lot of serious allegations against him over the course of 2 years and he is responding.

Some of the rollout has been tacky, but it's not illegitimate to set the record straight and tell the full story.

“New Lizza post is up!” I shout from my room. The only reply is my own echo; this house has been empty for thirty-five years.

this scam is particularly effective because the scammers imitate Michael’s standard email greeting: “I’m Michael Hobbes - yes, THAT Michael Hobbes.”
Scam alert: Someone is pretending to be me and reaching out to authors. The pitch contains enough specific details that it sounds plausible at first.

This is not me! I'm so sorry to anyone who has fallen for this.

Episode 47: Elon Musk

Walter Isaacson’s definitive biography poses the question: is it ok to be a pathetic, cruel, lying reactionary if it kind of helps you build cars?

i've recently been on pluribus tiktok and that show has produced an enormous amount of analysis from people who don't seem to understand art at all
How about you just watch the tv show like a normal person?

one thing worth observing here is that so many of these pundits aren't earnestly trying to understand what happened in the world as much as they are shadowboxing with people they don't like on the internet. stringinamaze.net/p/the-pundit...

interesting to see her leaning on the argument that pro-palestinian voices are unfamiliar with the relevant history, as if any amount of historical context could justify what's happening in palestine
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

the actual merits of the grade are mostly beside the point, but i do think it’s worth thinking about how to insulate yourself a bit from bad faith actors if you’re a professor or TA. this M.O. (on a smaller scale) is common on the right.

NEW: The F.D.A. announced in an internal memo that 10 children died "because of" the Covid shot. Other experts want to see proof.

“This is a profound revelation,” Dr. Prasad's memo said. “For the first time, the U.S. F.D.A. will acknowledge that Covid-19 vaccines have killed American children.”
