How can you see what is happening and not be changed?

Some context to the viral videos:

Around 9am Friday, ICE/CBP *encircled* several square miles of a safe suburb and *stormed* it using multiple units.

They were in cars, on foot in alleys & gangways, and in helicopters. They demanded papers, threatened residents, pointed guns, kidnapped people.

If showing up in community today felt great, imagine how cool it would be to always be working on building new worlds & resisting fascism!

Wherever you are, there’s probably projects to plug into. If there isn’t, you can get together with some friends or even just by yourself & start doing things.

@nlgchicago.bsky.social is trying to raise $10k to fund ongoing legal support for protesters. They've had to cover long shifts at Broadview, and their volunteers have been repeatedly assaulted by police in the process. More info with ways to donate here: instagram.com/p/DP36ITJja-W/

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

Digital layout was done a while ago, but just now getting around to doing the final art for this one. (I jump around a lot when I’m working on books.) Decided to go big and make the original page art 18x24.

If you want to see what’s actually happening in Chicago, these guys are a great resource.

They’re also completely grass roots so give them a follow (or a subscribe if you can) and show them some support.

Because we all know we can’t count on network news outlets to focus on the real story.
Fam, we are off the ground after a very long day and deliriously tired

Thanks for following along! Hope you stick around and check out some of our investigative work (it's pretty okay!). Hit that support page (we love monthly subscribers!) if you can, we'll be at this until our city is free

I was recently asked (again) about how I go about creating a graphic novel, so here’s a quick thread on my process.

Everything shown is for my upcoming book “Solidarity” which is due out some time next year.

It all starts with the cover…

“There’s got to be more consistent opposition to hatred and contempt in the world, and not adding more evil.” Faith Ringold tells @laurenoneillbutler.bsky.social in Lauren’s new book THE ART OF WAR: A History of Artists’ Protest in America. Wonderful story, from ACT UP to Sackler’s PAIN. #Resist

LOVE this organization!!

If you see them at a protest, know that legal observers are there to protect YOUR rights.

Graphic novels are the perfect medium for telling stories like this where the imagery is so incredibly powerful.

They temper the atrocities just enough to make them digestible (as opposed to photos or videos) while still telling the stories from a point of view that is personal and relatable.
My latest book reveal! Just arrived.

People are being disappeared by our government.
With all love and compassion, to hell with our comfort level, anxiety be damned, and f*ck whatever excuse we have as to why we aren’t the kind of people who are activists.
If you're a decent human, it's time.

Here's Why You Need To Become An Activist—Right. F*cking. Now.
Ok, so I get it—you’re not an activist.

There are no red states, no blue states, only purple, from Idaho fuchsia to Vermont violet. And in every state there are children, non-citizens, and prisoners who can't vote. In every state where one candidate won, a bunch of people voted for the other candidate. And so forth.

July 4 protest in Columbus, Oh did something that I don’t see happening at the big “No Kings” style protests.

They were networking.

Booths were set up by local political and mutual aid groups. They were handing out info, talking to ppl, making connections.

They were growing a movement.

We read stories about this in school. People snatched from their homes…dinner still on the table.

We understood that the nazis in those stories were the bad guys.

There was no debate.

Now it is happening here and every one of us must decide if we fight back, or look away.

DON’T LOOK AWAY!
Abandoned ice cream carts, fruit, and taco stands. Trucks with broken windows left in the middle of the streets. It’s the new reality ICE has brought to our beautiful city. This taco stand appears to have been hit last night, 6/27 in South LA by Florence and Gramercy.
