I feel bad for the doom posts.

But all of you outside of Chicago and the US need to not look away.

There are de facto concentration camps.

Humans kidnapped & disappeared.

Midnight gestapo raids of apartment buildings.

Groups of militia terrorizing and brutalizing people on busy streets.

This looks like a photo of a woman in the 70s or 80s, but it's from the turn of the century.

So do the Texas National Guard have to go home?

With that, Perry's off the bench. Formal written order coming tomorrow. We'll see if the national guard shows up at the fed courthouse anyway.

Still not sure what the "in part" referred to when she said she was granting the restraining order "in part."

In part? Did Oregon get an "in part" ruling?
jonseidel.bsky.social
#BREAKING A federal judge say she will grant "in part" a request by the state of Illinois for a temporary restraining order against the deployment of National Guard troops into the state.

U.S. District Judge April Perry is still ruling and has not outlined the details of her order.

ICE reportedly kidnapped someone this morning a block from my kids’ old school, in Rogers Park in Chicago. There are usually people there selling tamales, tacos, drinks, fruit etc

You know, doing things that make a place a community

They hate the places & communities & people we love

Went outside to touch grass and a loud black helicopter was circling over me, nose down.

Normal day in the neighborhood...
No planes, only a black helicopter buzzing the lakefront and zig zaging the far Northside. Local ICE reports today.

As someone who was recently prevented from boarding a flight from Chicago to the UK - a situation that took 3.5 weeks to sort, during which I nearly ran out of vital cancer medication - this frightens me. I have family in the US, but I'm increasingly hesitant to return...

Be careful out there.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Perry: DOJ's definition of rebellion would mean that
"literally all nonviolent protest” could be considered evidence of rebellion. Is that your argument?
Hamilton: The president has determined there is a danger of a rebellion, and you must defer to that finding

I would strongly advise against playing into the administration's agenda of characterizing human rights, civil liberties, community organizing, or immigration assistance as Leftist.
poemless.bsky.social
Not leftists. Just people. I lived in Albany Park a decade ago and the anti-ICE community organizing was already in force there included faith leaders, business owners, labor orgs, schools, immigrants from all corners of the world, mainstream Dems, translators, lawyers, nonprofits, etc. Nonpartisan.
lefttheprairie.bsky.social
I keep seeing chuds being like “why did no one ever talk about immigration before” or “why weren’t volunteers standing on corners to protect people from gangs” when leftists have literally been doing both these things for decades

ICE drew their weapons on, assaulted, pepper sprayed, zip-tied, shackled, and detained *white U.S. citizens* at a suburban Chicago cemetery. A cemetery. Sacred ground. They were not read their rights nor we they told what they were being charged with.
