Relatedly, this Stacey Abrams podcast "How Billionaires are Destroying the Media" has a glaring omission given the AJC's layoffs and Cox's long dominance of Georgia media and ownership of Axios, a favorite "mainstream" outlet for Trump and Bannon. (And corporate Dems)

Cox and Bezos = Old Money vs. New. Layoffs at the Washington Post got pilloried by Press Critics, those at the AJC barely ripple.

Washington Post publisher Will Lewis resigned and most major media reporters quickly filed stories overshadowing what’s the path ahead for the AJC under Andrew Morse.
I am begging national media critics to cover what's really happening in Atlanta.

I know the AJC is an active sponsor of journalism conferences so there's some degree of conflict of interest, but the city is in a deep civic crisis.

Trump wants to run America like how Atlanta is being run right now.

Spotted on Ponce de Leon Ave. earlier today: a student anti-ICE demonstration. The Ave. is named for the Spanish Conquistador and first Gov. of Puerto Rico with a complicated history of exploration and conquest. Long before today's world-conquering Tech Bros he sought the Fountain of Youth.

As of this morning, the NYTs has no story or mention of layoffs at the AJC.

The Washington Post’s layoffs are the bigger story, but the AJC gave the Times the story about the AJC ending print so a follow up, perhaps with more skepticism of its publisher’s claims, would seem warranted.

The AJC offices are closed today too. Wonder if they timed their layoffs to be overshadowed by the Post's.
New: Washington Post Executive Editor Matt Murray and HR Chief Wayne Connell tell employees to stay home for a zoom webinar ahead of “significant actions across the company.” Widely expected layoffs are scheduled to begin today.

"Approximately 50 positions will be cut, about 15% of the AJC’s headcount. About half of those laid off will come from the newsroom, the AJC’s largest department."

Meanwhile Cox-owned Axios is "scaling" its AI-sponsored local newsrooms.

Watched All About the Money last night. Lots to process. Hope to write something about it this weekend.

Cinematically, with lush photography and lingering shots of luxury items and Communist icons, cigarette smoke and yawning dogs, it's a poetic portrait of a chaotic person.

“Chambers fled the United States following the action, but continued to draw the attention of journalists like O’Shea, with Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and Mother Jones reporting at length on his exploits.”
