A weird hypocrisy of the internet. If you create and post things online, you are expected to never "spoil" any media without explicit & frequent warnings

However, the audience typically also expects you to be fully aware of every detail of said media, and will immediately start spoiling it for you

It completely removes artists' ability to demand payment for their labor. By making the labor free up front for the Brand. Not the audience but the advertisers

YT says this is for creators to build an advertiser portfolio and relationships with brands. That's just "paid in exposure" talk. Short term, unpredictable earnings.

This is why i say it will result in tons of theft. Even if the brand has no right to the video, how would small creator get the legal

use of the commercial by the brand is up to the Brand to reach out to the Creator to negotiate new terms

So just ask yourself what the result of this is?

Brand receives TONS of freely recorded commercials. & then AFTER they have the files it's up to the creator to monitor and protect their rights

Youtube's Open Call program. Very poorly designed for creators. Let's break it down for real now.

1) creator has to do all the work of making a commercial short, for free, up front

2) It's a contest to be chosen by the brand, who has full access to all submitted videos

Im reading two Witch-Themed webcomics atm. High Spirits Neoma and Love & Other Wicked Things

First one is really heavy on the generational trauma, but I love how the intercultural relationship is the backbone of stability for the characters.

Second one is lesbian witches figuring it out. Very cute

The weirdest thing to change about advertising in the past 10 years is nearly all commercials for products adopting fake-sponsorship aesthetics

Yknow, where the commercial is pretending to be an influencer doing an ad-read for the product. But the commercial is just that. No influencer exists.
