Last day of the 1st week of the #LifeSupportSystems Solutions from Space for Earth!

We went from delving into the #MELISSA project by being absorbed in all space business related stuff. Next week, six teams will present their idea of a service/product derived from a MELiSSA technology. Exciting!

Pilot editions are always a bit nerve wracking. One never knows what's going to happen.

By the end of the first day, I can say we successfully survived! We covered open and closed #ECLSS, the #MELiSSA project and applications and still had time to delve into the compartments 5 and 4B. Not bad 👌

There's an incredible #book by Thoreau that I believe everyone should read at least once - Civil Disobedience. Thoreau speaks about the civil duty to resist unjust laws.

A law is only set in stone when we abide by it. 🧵

"The department’s access to data across the federal government — has sparked a number of conflict of interest concerns. But those questions are particularly glaring at NASA, as the space agency holds 'proprietary data from NASA contractors, some of whom compete directly with SpaceX.'”

“I’m glad to see President Trump work to return our federal government to the meritocracy it should be (...)” Sen. Rick Scott

This is highly hypocritical. Access to top schools often depends on wealth, connections and economic advantage. Elite unis have become gatekeepers of success, not enablers.

Last year's Erice School of Science Journalism focused on Underground Space Science, with the KM3NeT research potential being one of the covered points. The deep-sea telescope setup is by itself mind blowing. Now, KM3NeT has detected a cosmic neutrino with a record-breaking energy of about 220 PeV!
Neutrinos are difficult to detect because they barely interact with normal matter, but now physicists have found the most energetic neutrino yet thanks to an instrument on the floor of the Mediterranean Sea. www.newscientist.com/article/2468...

“It feels like a betrayal by NASA....It’s inefficient, it’s wasteful, and it’s also just messed up.”

This is how scientists inside and outside the agency are feelings about the cuts to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Words by me:

NASA embraced diversity. Trump’s DEI purge is hitting space scientists hard
Some researchers at NASA and outside it feel betrayed by the changes at the agency, which was known for promoting inclusion in science.
