Second beer was a standout: Saint Arnold from Hop Union Brewery. Belgian IPA. Again with the fruitiness. Tasty.

Saturday beers starting with some Good Chemistry.

Weiss Versa, a Hefeweizen beer with a gentle, slightly fruity flavour. Refreshing.

My exploration of YouTube DJs went off track: too many disappointing club sets and techno cropping up. But then I find ones like this. The first half is jazzier and better for it.

Goat remixed. The essence of Goat is still there. But tracks from their most recent album are given a hefty reshaping. And while I enjoyed it, I'm going to choose the original over this more often than not.

The new Coastlands album is amazing.

Post-metal with a lot of shoegaze fuzziness. Intensity used sparingly throughout the album, lots of longer melodic sections. One to come back to.

Medieval Demon do sound medieval. It feels a little theatrical and could pass as a Castlevania soundtrack. It is definitely fun though.

I think we lose some heaviness with that. But make up for it with the atmosphere.

Diverged form my usual listening today with Purity Ring's new self-titled album.

I've dipped into a little EDM here and there in the last week. And I've liked previous Purity Ring work. This isn't bad, but I'd like a slightly more robust beat behind the ethereal vocals.

A little bit of post rock this afternoon. You, infinite’s self-titled album.

A calming, introspective work that feels optimistic. A settling experience. Perhaps bordering on dull if you’re not in the mood. But I liked it.

This is indeed very good. Hardcore punk infused with Iranian influences. Adds an interesting layer to their sound.

Ameretat is becoming one of my favorite punk albums of the year. Definitely worth a listen, a good mix of styles and some traditional folk instrument use, too.

And thanks to Apple Music Discovery channel for this one: Affection & Vengeance, by Ainsoph.

A wonderful post-metal/rock work. Blackened elements, maybe some blackgaze. (They tag voidgaze but that's new to me). Creates a subtle, slightly haunting and emotional atmosphere.

I can thank Jools Holland for this one: You Heartbreaker, You, by Johnny Beth.

Caught her on his show on Sunday and liked the noisy post-punk I saw. The album lives up to her performance. Lively, loud, a little raw.

One album today: Communion in anguish, by Tithe.

And it's another Death metal album that isn't doing as much for me as I hope. Which isn't to say it's bad. It';s definitely aggressive and noisy. I just wanted something to stand out from the crowd a bit more.

This morning I gave Lachrymose Monuments Of Obscuration, by Hooded Menace a listen.

It's perfectly fine, but didn't do much for me. And that includes the death metal Duran Duran cover towards the end (Save a Prayer).

One more Oktoberfest beer tonight - this one from Augustiner-bräu München. It’s a tasty beer, a bit of malt to it, not too clean.

Yes! The vocals didn’t sit well with me at all. The vibe felt at odds with the more math rock and thoughtful instrumental work.

Wife back from work trip in Europe so we’re doing a night of European beer. She’s not a big beer drinker but likes a good clean German beer.

Starting out with Rothaus Pils from Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus.

Something about the new Alpha Male Tea Party album didn't work for me.

Music I can like but didn't love. There's some great drumming and wonderful moments in there. Yet the sum didn't live up to the parts.

The first thing I listened to today: making breakfast to another chilled youtube DJ set.

Smart speaker has decided to act dumb about playing digital radio so had to find alternatives that work for the kids too.

Second thing I listened to today - Nocturnal Birding, by Author & Punisher.

A loud accompaniment to the morning dog walk. Heavy industrial, hints of sludge, strongly electronic. Which all works for me. Short and intense.

One album today: The Thule Grimoires, by There ruins of Beverest.

This is a beast. What really stood out for me on this black/death metal album were the many eerie melodic sections. Hints of psych and a feeling of cosmic horror. A great work.
