I liked the most recent Cult of Luna album so expected to like this. They’re performing it in full at #arctangent.
There was a moment in the first track where I wasn’t sure it was going to live up to the hype. But we got past that and this is solid, sludgy post metal.

A lot of this sounds liek I could have been listening back in the 80s/90s. New wave synth sounds with just enough of a post-punk feel to move beyond nostalgia.

I found this album both a comfortingly retro sound and also a bit boring. I’m torn on it. It feels fully out of the 1960s but after a while it’s a little bland. Fine in small doses.

The new Ningen Isu album is pretty good. It’s a consistent, old school metal sound. None of the weirdness I normally go for, but there’s something about how rock solid their performance is that appeals.
