A lack of vocals isn't important to me. Vocals can ruin everything though under certain circumstances. For personal example, I just don't care for the way the vocals sound for Omnium Gatherum so I can't get into them despite the music being fantastic.

The mod statements in this doc are a lot like Nuremberg testimonies (Godwin's Law achieved). They knew stuff was going on which they were uncomfortable with, but they didn't realize how widespread and malicious it was until after the fact. Like you said, the best intentions can't stop a monster.

I always find NSFW channels in servers, even ones that try to be 18+, extremely dangerous spaces to cultivate. It's a delicate bomb, ready to explode at any time without harsh moderation. I'd rather not take that risk, personally, but I understand why those spaces exist, especially in queer culture.

This is why I always found Shayy offputting back when I initially blocked them on Twitter. Constant wielding of a parasocial army for any perceived infraction is harassment. Whether the target did anything wrong was left up to the mob to decide, and they were frequently passing out pitchforks.

That safety goes both ways as well. Creators are not your friends, they are performers and artists, and you should respect their boundaries and they should respect yours.
