👋 #Introduction: I love music. Former DJ at #KFJC 89.7 FM (kfjc.org). Also ran a live event called #24HourDrone with my buddy Norman Teale for a couple of years. I’m actually very shy, so I’m sorry if you were expecting a follow-back or something.

I admit, this was one of my big splurges this year.

Found another (!) skeleton.
The skeletal remains of some kind of fucken rodent that chewed up tarpaper, insulation, and plywood, making huge holes underneath the Spanish tile roof.

#Upcoming Did you know there was another #Nijiumu (Keiji Haino, Tetuzi Akiyama, Takashi Matsuoka) LP after “Era of Sad Wings”? I didn’t! This one includes a solo Haino piece recorded in 1973. Available via @orenambarchi.bsky.social, tomorrow (October 10th)! blacktruffle.bandcamp.com/album/when-i...

Saw this when I was 13 at a youth group sleepover. It was supposed to be a way for high school seniors to reach out to incoming freshman haha.

As today is World Octopus Day I’ll again mention that a Spanish equivalent to “like a fish out of water” is como un pulpo en un garaje. It means “like an octopus in a garage.”

The short answer is people probably will make the same mistakes again. BUT! If enough of all of us committed to continuously share lessons learned, fewer newcomers would make them. Unfortunately there just isn’t an easy one-and-done solution. You have to constantly work at it.

Yes, but have we learned anything or are we just doomed to make the same stupid Sisyphean missteps over again? How will this be cleaned up after this bubble bursts? ⏳

#NowPlaying JO Kazuhiro's “Fragmented Music” project uses slices of etched plastic as single steps in a vinyl sequencer-oscillator. This talk/demo from a few days ago at the Alpaca conference explains how it works. Cc: @jupitterlarsen.bsky.social & AMK & ECC www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJSH...

Essential reading.

As my day job is often involves survey design, these questions asked in major surveys are poorly designed. If you ask concrete questions, you learn that most (even folks on the other side politically) are not actually driven to violence. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/most-polls...
Why most polls overstate support for political violence
Misperceptions about the popularity of violence increase public support for it — but you can help change that.

Especially in light of the shutdown of @wcsb.bsky.social yesterday, it's important to know that college radio IS thriving and plays a vital role in many students' lives. Thanks to @emwhitenoise.bsky.social for this great piece that takes a closer look at why Gen Z is excited about college radio.

College radio stations are seeing a surge in student interest.

Stations that once struggled to fill airtime are now overflowing with student DJs.

I spoke to 7 college radio stations across the U.S. to understand what is driving the revival:

Is this a tongue-in-cheek thing or?
soundclamp.bsky.social
It’s shitty on several levels: sends the message to students – who are paying for their education – that they don’t get to have any input on such matters, and feels like it’s further deepening class divisions because it it’s an NPR-affiliated programming taking over. For what?

Any excuse to share this again. Heres the mini-doc I made about how an impromptu Ike Yard jam session at the music building in NYC inspired their bassist Ken's girlfriend Madonna to write her debut single
