Greetings. I'm a 30+ year veteran of the games industry. I've made Lots of my own original IP like TY the Tasmanian Tiger and Blade Kitten. As well as directing some smaller lesser known IP like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed :D

I like to design characters and make comics in my "spare" time.

No amount of money will ever feel as good as making something of your own, as bringing something into the world that would never exist if not for you.
I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

My dog was just whining at me because the piece of plastic he was trying to eat didn't taste good.

Oh yeah, baby. Give me more of those sweet, sweet hexes...

I mean... I'm making good progress on my hex-based aesthetic.

When ever one of those AI bros tires to tell you that artist are gatekeeping art remember that pros, armatures, hobbyist all stopped what they where doing to provide guidance to a newbie artist over the shared experience that "this one angle is hard to draw"
The "Frieren Looking Up" Art Trend attracted some Big Names in Animation! Excited for Season 2?

Hex thing follow-up.

I actually looked up the maths for the distances for placing hexes together in a grid. I always just eyeballed it in photoshop or 3D. Turns out it's really simple and I understood it a lot better after I wrote some code to generate a grid of sprites.

Had a really cool idea in the shower for how to present part of the game that had me stumped - none of the ideas did a good job of wrapping up the elements I want it to entail.

Until now - Came up with a nice simple way to present the info and gameplay.

And it uses my favorite thing ever - Hexes!

Another day, another severe thunderstorm on the way through. I've been pretty lucky and the worst of them have been passing by to the east along the coast. I got some small hail a couple of times but there were heaps of places getting baseball-sized hailstones.

Worst of all, it's pretty hot.

Picked up Mickey from the groomers (he looks fantastic) and had to cross a train line where the boom gates and lights were out. That was pretty scary to be honest. Worse still was hearing the sound of an approaching train once I was a few cars past the crossing.

Walking Mickey early this morning, and stopped to cross the road as a car drives by. Feel something on my leg and think it's just some spider web I walked through.

It was.

Except there was a big spider still attached to it. Brushed it off and let it crawl into the grass.

No bite, no powers :(

Really disappointed in season three of One PowerPoint Man. It really looks like the animators weren't given a decent budget to even plan things out properly. Everything looks cheap and rushed, which is just making the story drag so much that I'm not even sure I want to bother watching it.

Up early on a rainy Sunday morning so I did another tweak pass on the sprite. Not making this for anything other than I miss noodling around designing character sprites. I used to spend so much of my time playing around with pushing pixels and I do miss it.

Had a go at a second pass on the Shibuya Rave Witch sprite to get rid of a lot of the "noise" and make things read better. Anything to avoid spending time reformatting a book for print.

Messing about with converting 4K→SD by indexing the palette of the layers to get a pixel effect.

Since I ended up spending my Friday night bug fixing today I thought I'd spend the morning doing some pixel art just for fun.

Spent my evening hunting down a bug that broke my dialogs. I was sure it was related to some new code I added last week. IT was... sort of. I'd added some fade-in code to the text boxes that I had set to destroy after they faded in. I switched those off and everything worked again.
