I haven’t posted for quite awhile. I find the current situation beyond words. But here is a selection from a long poem I am working on called Dead Languages.

For some reason this is a 4 coffee day. It is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow in a way it hasn’t rained in August for at least a decade, but it is still warm out. The skies are blue, though with whips of mare’s tails.

Don’t have a picture, but here in deep red Eatonville, Wa, a town of 2500, at the peak we had about 50 protesters. Nice to find one’s community.

Grateful today for the mountain that graces our horizon and that it has not yet erupted and killed us all.

A milestone: I have reached 100 followers. I have more elsewhere, but none of my followers here seem to be porn bots or engagement bots. Welcome. I will try to post something interesting in the near (or distant) future.

I thought I would post this poem. Victoria Amelina was a Ukranian poet and novelist who was researching Russian war crimes. She was killed in a restaurant in Kramatorsk in 2022 when it was hit by a Russian missle. I did not know her but I had followed her on Twitter. Her death was a blow.

I sat down and tried to sum up the last week or so of campus protests. This is what I got.
The real rioters? Cops and college presidents.
The kids are alright. The adults are not.

Last night I dreamed that I was going to write a trilogy of novels. Each novel would be from the POV of one of King Lear’s three daughters. Not something I feel I could actually write if anyone wants it

There’s a lot I don’t know about the current situation, but I do know there are people in Israel in terror and pain, that in Gaza there are people in terror or pain (and in Ukraine and Somalia etc.) I also know if I were to fully absorb that pain, I’d become like Niobe, a stone that weeps forever.
