You might see several artists mad about the bluesky policy update banning non-con, even artists who do not make that kind of material, and wonder why it's such a problem. If that's you, here is a quick breakdown:

I'm generally tired of twitterlite type sites and modern social media. I don't really like the Feed Internet anymore.

I just found @domo.town not too long before the wake of bsky doing dubious guidelines post. It's a great little site, reminds me of the pre-2013 art sites on the Internet. UI is great and it has categories. Highly recommend

Ah yes, dubious content guidelines that surely won't be abused in any way by the whims of mods and an unreliable auto mod system. This is a terrible, untenable move, Itch did this shit with their guidelines too. I don't draw much erotic work but I draw a lot of gory/bloody/horror NSFW stuff.

Building Healthier Social Media: Updated Guidelines and New Features - Bluesky
Public discourse on social media has grown toxic and divisive, but unlike other platforms, Bluesky is building a social web that empowers people instead of exploiting them.

"but art should be accessible" it is, you can learn to draw, paint, collage, sculpt, make pixels. right now, starting today. art has never been more accessible monetarily nor physically than it is now in this age. access to artist labor and machine production is not an accessibility issue.

Occasionally I will do poetry. Occasionally I like how it turns out. It's still topical for me and close to my heart. It's a result of a restless night without sleep.

Forward is not a straight line/Embark
Free verse poetry on a dark blue background with a canvas texture with a drawing of a sailboat in choppy water in the bottom right corner. The poem reads:

You embark
Far from shore on either end
Expanse abounds
And, the best laid plans from you of the past,
Sincere as they were
Crumble, mast crashing
Forward is not a straight line

Dear me of the past,
Thank you for getting our ship
Setting fire, taking risk
You could not have known how far we'd go
Courageous you, eyes aglow
The battles we'd wage
How lost we'd become
A perilous cork flung far from home
Forward is not a straight line

It's tempting to heap coals of regret
On the self of past days
Full of "if onlys" hull cracked
Deal with pitch, imagine
"If I were better, if I were brighter"
If only the horizon was fixed in place
Not made of decision shaped cliffs that
Clatter and shimmer
Forward is not a straight line

This is not your funeral
Do not immolate, stay your hand
Shipwrecked raft
Cross of earth and sky lost
Within crashing waves
You left shore with a compass
Bobbing above water
We find our North amidst the squall
Tuned compass in hand, a gift from you
The one who embarked, all those me's ago
We find our next forward,
It is not a straight line

Reminder: if you are worried about AI replacing you as an artist: don’t use AI voices,
If you don’t want composing to be handed over to AI: don’t use it to write text.
You get the idea.

If you value your job: protect others jobs too.

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑
Frustrated little dude gripping a pencil saying “how do I pack this down into something I can actually share?” While swirling rainbows labeled “INFINITE POTENTIAL” float around them.

Little dude frowns at a tiny grey box, exclaiming “all that work for THIS?!”

Little dude shoves the grey box into another little guy’s hands; Frowning, stomping off, and saying “Here you go, I made this, it sucks.”

Second little dude cracks open the box, swirling rainbows project out onto their face.

Second little dude stares in awe at all the swirling rainbows now floating around them.

I love comics, and I wish I was faster at drawing them. I think that's the perpetual struggle. :U Speed isn't everything but it is A LOTnof it because time is so limited. I'm winding down on market season for the summer now so I've been drawing a little more and holy shit I have missed it.

While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI:

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.
AI impoverishes us at every step of the process:
- data centers pollute our environment
- energy use drives up costs
- content theft robs creators of income
- the actual output is used to displace workers and depress wages
- using it harms our mental health and impairs our competence
- the flood of AI slop is damaging our sociopolitical landscape

All in service of making a worse product - and world - to enrich a handful of already spectacularly wealthy people

Greater whole will make you want to pull your hair out. Divide your energy accordingly to not stumble your way into frustration.

This rant is @ me as much as anyone who maybe reads it.

Make comics and git gud me @ me

Stand alone as a full piece and sometimes accompany a written idea. But the function is different. And like this isn't a hard and fast rule observation whatever, there's overlap.

But I know that treating comic panels like a series of mini illustrations and not as sinewy drawn paragraphs of a

But damn if I don't want to treat each panel like an illustration sometimes.
