A 4-centimeter section of a maple tree trunk, covered in white sections with jagged black crack borders that look like a map - within the borders of each crack grow tiny lichen disc collections. A clump of moss and lichen on a stick (hidden) on a bed of fallen brown oak leaves. The left side is a cluster of bluish gray textured lung lichen - maybe. That’s what iNaturalist says as its first suggestion. Fluffy green moss grows all around and between its lobes. On the right side is some bright, saturated kelly green tree lungwort lichen. I find this all very stunning and exciting, but I am obviously a total nerdsmobile.

A tiny, 3-centimeter section of a fallen twig bedecked with several tiny lichen and moss specimens. The center has a lovely sea green splotch with round, gray octopus-sucker-shaped disks. Some lighter green oak moss lichen sticks up behind that, and little bright yellow dots of lichen and dark green sprigs of moss go up and down the stick too. An entire community on a twig. Love it!

Huey, the male Anna’s hummingbird who thinks he’s in charge of this window feeder. He likes to sit and watch me wash dishes and wonders what’s in the fridge. Sometimes we have lunch together until he flies off abruptly. He’s got a light, greenish gray chest, and his head is bedecked with shiny green feathers that turn magenta in different lights.

Yesterday’s sunrise over the Cascade foothills. The bottom is lined with tree silhouettes. There’s one closer, larger tree silhouette on the lower left. Going from the horizon up, the sky is showing layers of golden apricot, pale blue, light salmon pink going to a darker pink and into purple and darker blue up along the top of the picture. So pretty!

Two big, vivid, reddish-orange American fly agaric mushrooms grow side by side under a green-leafed bush among some brown leaf litter. The have those rough, puffed up white spots on the top and white gills underneath, and a shaggy white stem. The mushroom in the foreground has been significantly gnawed upon by something - probably a slug or snail. The mushrooms were nearly the size of dinner plates, and there were several others growing all around the area in various states of emergence and decay. Wild.
