This is where I'll post about my beloved passion project. Splice The Hedgehog is, (in its current state) an RPG I built almost entirely alone in RPGmaker 2003. It features a whopping 15 playable characters (1 optional) with different abilities and traits to solve puzzles in zones and dungeons alike.

I really need to learn to finish my current tasks before starting new ones lol. I have two more sprites to finish on my sheet from last month but instead of wrapping them up I’m cleaning up and reorganizing my music folders.

In my defense tho, it’s something I desperately need to do.

I was reaaally hoping to finish these by the end of the month but I really started to drag my feet between going back to work and immediately being -out- of work due to the snow storm. I'm only just now finding my footing again but it's already past my bedtime on the final night.

I struggled a lot with this one, but the end result is like night and day. Whether it be sprite form or commission art, Keela has had the best glow up out of all my OCs.

Cymbeline is also not my OC, but the second of two guest characters in SpTH. Her owner mostly goes by AngelWings, and she's responsible for laying the groundwork for a huge overarching plot in my main writing series outside the game.

Cy didn't take long because I already updated her sprites pretty recently. That said, there was still room for color fixes, and I never redid her wings. The old wings were taken from somewhere but the new ones are from scratch. #OC #sprites #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

Daz is actually not my OC, but one of two guest characters in SpTH. The owner went by a few names, (off the top my head: DJ_Daz, Dazzle, supersonicremixes) but I lost contact with him during the final redesign of his OC (specifically the color of his outfit). The ref was drawn by FlameEliwood.

It's been a sleepy day staying home in this snowstorm, but i finally told myself to lock in and keep my word so here's Daz's update. Whether his hair looks better or worse now is hard for me to say: Spiky perms or whatever you'd call that style are not my forte. #OC #sprites #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

I'll start with 4 directions, (for the RPG) and then see how 8 works out. I'm going to slowly, but surely build everyone a proper sprite sheet so I can finally put all this old crust and rust of decades past behind me.

my daily spriting effort is going pretty well. Told myself I'd only do one sprite per day but I've been going a bit further than that since a lot of these only needed minor updates. Pearl on the right is still a WIP, but she already looks so much better. #OC #Sprites #Sonic
Two sprites of Speedy the Hedgehog. Left is old, right is new. There are slight color corrections, an adjustment to his shoes and the addition of his short forehead spikes from his SpTH artwork. Very subtle, finishing touches here. Two sprites of Pearl the Echidna. Left is old, right is new but unfinished. There are major adjustments to the color palette, making Pearl's fur and hair brighter, skin paler, and clothes significantly less saturated by contrast. Her face has been slightly tweaked, and eyes a lighter shade of blue.

Of course, now that RPG Paper Maker's 3.0 pre release just dropped, I'm going to be spending more of my time trying to remake the game in this new engine. I probably won't be posting anymore actual updates in 2k3 outside of the character spotlight videos and other gameplay examples.

So for #screenshotsaturday, here's my experimental zone title card! It's really nothing fancy looking, but a simple approach is best for this style of gameplay. Zones in SpTH don't play like your typical 2D platformer.

It's been a while! I've been trying to fit gamedev back into my regular schedule with my new day job. Just to get back into the groove of things, I've been experimenting with some game assets and seeing how they look in RPG2k3. I've been scouring Spriters-Resource all week for ideas.
