There are parallels between what Trump did in Venezuela on January 3, 2026 and what Saddam Hussein did in Kuwait on August 2, 1990.

Both were war crimes directed by tyrants and—if the U.S. didn’t have the military it does—*both* would’ve been stopped by allied foreign invasions.

Trump is weak at home, and he can be stopped – so long as the domestic political logic of foreign intervention is recognized and turned against him. This act of war is about regime change in the United States. It only succeeds if Americans allow it to do so.

The Trump-Russia Scandal, as a research topic, is so vast—it covers so many continents, decades, and scandals in various nations—that we can analogize being a scholar of it to being a scholar of the Cold War or the Gilded Age.

We keep speaking of trees without seeing the forest.
