Friends, it's time. After five years, I'm moving on from covering #MetroCouncilNash.

The July 15 meeting will be the last one I cover. It'll also probably be the last one I watch for some time.

I'll have more to say about this decision later, but for now, I want to thank some folks.

🦞
If the Board of Ethical Conduct — which almost NEVER makes findings that someone actually violated Metro’s ethics code — found I had committed a violation as a board member, I would simply resign.

Alternately, the council could hold a vote to remove Hendricks. His term isn’t up until 2027!

I just had a chance to watch this portion of the meeting and if WeGo thinks this is the last conversation on this topic it won't be.
At yesterday’s WeGo Board meeting, Chair Gail Carr-Williams said WeGo responded “instantly, and in an outstanding fashion” to the federal shutdown.

This was right after @quinevanssegall.bsky.social asked the board to partner with council on a plan for emergency fare suspension in the future.

it’s remarkable how good we are at implementing limited-time fare suspension despite executive leadership’s ramblings to the contrary

is it time for new executive leadership that’s more in touch with the reality of modern transit operations?

In this house, we believe:
- Make every bus free
- Increase Rte 18 frequency to every 10 minutes.
- If you take bus to airport, pay $10 at airport bay before disembarking, in order to maintain headways.
- If going from airport, pay $10 when boarding
- install luggage racks on these buses (no-brainer)
- profit
You know how we could solve the alleged fraud concerns with Journey Passes AND avoid confrontation with folks unhappy with their inability to qualify?

Say it with me, folks: FARE-FREE BUSES!

It’s that easy. We’re making it difficult for no good reason.

“There were early concerns that fare-free travel would heap extra burdens on bus drivers, drawing homeless people or anything-goes behavior. Yet several drivers said that not having to ask passengers for payment or transfers has led to less friction with riders.”

OMG SHE DID NOT EVEN READ THE ARTICLE. I AM DEAD.

Calvin said, in today’s Homelessness Planning Council meeting, “Quite honestly, I did not read the article. I couldn’t get past the first sentence, just because it was not factual.”
I truly wish government officials would speak in plain English. Just listened to OHS Director April Calvin address Eli’s reporting in the Scene. I could barely follow what she was saying, and I worked at the precursor to OHS. Lots of innuendo and allusion to things unsaid.

WeGo: Call a special meeting of the board to update the public. Precedent for special called meetings is 5 days notice. Get it on the calendar.

Journey Pass cannot enroll riders at-scale, and we’re pulling resources away from other priorities. Bag the box.
