I am utterly thrilled to find my piece on the aristocracy and racing on the front of today’s Racing Post – truly, little could be more thrilling! What a fun piece to write, pegged to the publication of my book HEIRS AND GRACES, a history of the modern British aristocracy

No. But did he honestly say why he wasn't living it up in the Hall with his family and friends?
statelyhomenews.bsky.social
I'm guessing that his income is mostly used to fund a large and extended family, including a lot of non-income producing assets (e.g. homes, collections, etc). It's amazing how quickly a family office can chew through conservatively-sourced revenue!

Perhaps they can change the photo caption to mention the holiday lets, as a subtle plug - I don't think his book sales alone are going to fund the Hall restoration!

Was the bedroom photo from Elveden Hall? It seems out of place in the article, compared to all the empty rooms, with no mention of it in the final edition.

St Patrick’s Hall in Dublin Castle is getting ready to welcome Ireland’s 10th President this November!
Go behind the scenes as chandeliers, some with over 500 pieces of crystal, are carefully lowered, cleaned, polished, & winched back into place. This painstaking process takes 2 weeks to complete!

Shotley Park, a Grade II listed house in Consett, has been on fire overnight. County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service have been working to put out the blaze last night and during today. There was an application in 2024 to turn it into a hotel🧵

It was my huge pleasure – after years of trying – to interview the Earl of Iveagh at Elveden for this week's Great Estates. On being a Guinness and that famous name, on sitting in the Lords as an Irishman, on the brewery, his lovely pa and more, he was fantastic

Delighted to share some initial research that Stephanie Pratt (Crow Creek Dakota) & I have started at Knole @researchnt.bsky.social. How can its transatlantic connections also centre Indigenous presence? What new interpretation might such frameworks allow?

This is extreme gardening.

At 55 feet high and 300 years old, it takes one gardener 10 weeks on a hydraulic cherry-picker to trim the hedges at Powis Castle, returning the yew hedges to their famous, cloud-like shapes.
A gardener stands holding electric shears on a huge red cherrypicker, trimming a gigantic, cloud-shaped, dark green hedge. The rolling green hills of the countryside stretch out in the background under a blue sky. A view up at the 55-foot-tall, cloud-shaped hedges at Powis Castle. A brick wall partitions the garden. In the top left-hand corner, a red cherrypicker holds a gardener over the hedges.

How lovely to see a review of my book HEIRS AND GRACES, a history of the modern British aristocracy in this month's Critic by Adrian Tinniswood. It’s also online here! How nice! (I'm not sure I am actually 'besotted', as much as a serious scholar of a serious subject)
