The most powerful thing you can do for an author you like is to give them a meaningful review.

Books live and die by word of mouth.
Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after… *gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

So it's award nomination season and I had the intention of starting up a nomination campaign for Stealing from Wizards. Then I started looking through eligibility and nomination criteria and was instantly exhausted.

So nominate me for stuff if you know how. I'm going to hide in a blanket fort. 😴

I wonder if Polaroid is going to see a resurgence in the age of AI. There is something appealing about the trustworthiness of the images being physical and immediate with no digital intermediary.

I'm pretty sure Blue Prince is genius. It's just so well architected!

A big givaway that this is sketchy is that it's automatically turned off in Europe, UK, Japan, Switzerland, because they have tighter privacy laws. 🫠
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

I was pondering the various ways to end series last night instead of falling asleep. Is this a microblogging appropriate topic? Nope. Join me on this overlong journey.

General advice to authors: don't read the reviews.

My advice to authors: have literally the kindest and most wonderful fans on the planet.

I have reached the Skinner box period of book release.

Book sales bounce up and down by the day, and I have no way of knowing whether my actions had any influence, but my pigeon brain is convinced my behavior is important.

I haven't changed my socks since the random bump on Tuesday.

This is a credit where it's due, but also podcast recommendation post.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and also write books. These podcasts have all directly, or indirectly, made me a better writer. 🧵

Well that's just a satisfying looking number

Arson is going well. Thank you for your support! 🥰

Have we talked about Chekhov's Crowded Mantelpiece here?

It's a writing technique I love to use and enjoy going off about. Also I'm on lunch, so buckle up...

Does anyone else experience excitement cross contamination?

I get weirdly excited about pileated woodpeckers, corgis, axolotls, crochet sculpture, monsterotica books, and orcas. It's not because I care about them, but because I have friends that are SO into them that I get excited on their behalf.

This is the kind of advocate authors hope for: questioning other people's life choices for not reading my books.

A+ no notes.

Doing to publicity tour thing for Arson means people keep asking me questions I've never thought about before. Recently:

"Which three character traits do you think were most instrumental to your success?"

Turns out the answer to that question is "wrote books instead of getting therapy."

I want to put "Best book hangover ever" as a blurb on the back cover.

It's so gratifying to have people finding peace and satisfaction in these books, and leaving happy.

Sticking the landing is tough.

Stealing fro Wizards: fun for kids, devastatingly relatable for adults. 😅
Hell this is how I felt until I was most of the way through my 20s.

Quote from today: "I've never related so hard to a character as I did to Kuro. The imposter syndrome. I felt exactly like him when I was starting my masters." 🤣

SfW isn't supposed to be an allegory for grad school, but I see it.
