The DO was started with the idea of brining to a wide audience developments and topics in the #DH worlds of Asian, N. African and Middle Eastern fields.

It is currently the only platform that does so, as open-access resource.

As someone who's had GBSF, Nippon Foundation, and NSIC funding over the years, I'll share what I've learned about making strategic career moves and why your network matters.

This webinar is the first in a three-part series on Japan Studies.
Dr. Christopher Hayes (Teesside University) of the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation will lead a panel of fellows in the Japan studies field to examine ways that interdisciplinary approaches can expand career opportunities.
Invitation to join me at the Nippon Foundation-organized "Japan Studies Webinar 1 - Next-Gen Career Paths: Interdisciplinary and Diverse Trajectories in Japan Studies" (Fri Sept 26, 5PM JST):

#guestcontribution by Stephanie Santschi on how to teach students studying *EastAsian *ArtHistory to use AI as a learning tool rather than as an academic crutch.

Looking forward to the hands-on workshop portion where participants will test the tool with their own courses, and especially their feedback, which will help me refine it further!

I'll be sharing:
> Real examples from our Chair of East Asian Art History—but applicable across all disciplines
> A systematic framework that connects AI permissions to specific learning objectives
> A LLM-powered tool ('chatbot prompt') that helps educators create customized policies in minutes
With this, I present a concrete solution for the challenge many of us face: How do we help students navigate AI tools responsibly while maintaining academic integrity? Instead of simply banning or allowing AI, what if we created guidelines that actually enhance learning?
This Thursday I'm presenting "Developing Learning-Outcome-Oriented AI Usage Guidelines" at the #AIinTeaching Forum @UZH!
The goal? Moving from "You can't use GPT" to "For this specific assignment, AI can help you with X, Y, and Z, but you need to do A, B, and C yourself to master the core skills."
Looking forward to meeting old and new colleagues!
Here's to building minds, developing ideas, constructing concepts, connecting serendipities.

#DH2025 - only the final keynote left to go now. You all've been inspiring. Let's keep in touch! @adho-org.bsky.social
True! 📚📒📃

On that note, the interdisciplinarity of the conference is one of the reasons why it's so inspiring. Getting out of our echo chambers and hearing about systems used in other disciplines. Personally, can't wait to dig back in when I am back, and def. hop onto some of the ideas shared!
The 10min format was def. a challenge. Esp. when having to introduce other backgrounds necessary to understanding (in my case, early modern Japanese art) 😅
Would an option be a "sources and systems" handout (maybe digital), which could provide background info, links, etc?
You all, including you, @kmcdono.bsky.social are a great inspiration ! To be continued...

Chose “Digital Mapping & Crowdsourcing for Cultural Heritage & Dialect Studies” for my first #DH2025 session. bit.ly/40R5T7U / maps are such a key entry point for many DH projects and these were all excellent examples / great to see @iiif.bsky.social used in various projects
Ready for an exciting first morning at the #DH2025 conference! I'll be speaking about our "Drawing from the Crowd" geo-citizen science project on early modern Japanese prints in the second panel, at 11am!
