Why the public are the real losers from the hate legislation fracas
These are the biggest losers, and winners, in the political brinkmanship Anthony Albanese and Labor lured Sussan Ley and the Liberals into.

Nationals now calling another emergency party room meeting. Whole bunch threatening to resign, demanding the Coalition end. Australians are the biggest losers from these terrible hate group laws, but the political instincts of Ley and her team are almost unmatched for grasping stupidity

Politicising Bondi backfires for Liberals who got what they asked for
Federal Liberals are discovering the price of having been so brazen in their politicisation of the Bondi terror attack and many appear to have buyers' remorse.

Will there be calls for a Royal Commission into Islamophobia?

Will Grant Hackett get involved? Will community leaders blast the Albanese government for not listening to the Islamophobia envoy? Will Pauline Hanson be castigated by Sky for causing this, as Mehreen Faruqi was castigated over Bondi?
On Saturday, an imam and his wife were allegedly victims of a violent hate crime — forced off the road by another car, with attackers then getting out to assault the imam/threaten his wife.

ANIC put out a statement on Sunday arvo, noting rising islamophobia.

The media is just getting to it now.

Wondering whether any highly paid CEOs, sports stars or other non-experts now calling for a RC into Bondi said a word when the LNP rejected calls for a Banking RC or a Robodebt RC. 🤔

Who organised this, and why does the ABC not state this?
Josh Frydenberg?
Why should this matter, when petitions signed by a far greater number of ordinary Australians are routinely ignored?

The attempt to now discredit this guy because he didn’t do what Sky News wanted is (in a long list) one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in Australian media. What an absolute disgrace.
Saved lives *and* screwed Sky News? Put down your glasses, we have found the Australian of the Year

@mitchmctaggart.bsky.social once again provides the finest summary of the year in Australian TV (with appropriate levels of snark).

If you have access to Binge, go and check it out - you won’t disappointed!

(I would definitely watch Old B*tch!! 😂)
Twins, clickbait, nazis, plus a smattering of good things here and there, I promise. Recap the year in Australian TV with me (a hottie) on The Last Year of Television. Out Monday on @binge.com.au ❤️

The Coalition has mistaken the unity it has found as a party and like minded political bedfellows over its response for actual unity. Its feverish rhetoric comes from the brief cohesiveness it’s discovered after so many fractures, rather than an organic groundswell. It also will not hold.
Remember, Ley & news.corp et al aren't talking to you, or even about you. They're screaming at each other & mistaking the echo as a response.

Most Australians want to honour the victims, have stronger gun laws and to get on with their holidays in peace free of unhinged ranting (relatives excepted).

Sussan Ley completely lacks what it takes to be Prime Minister or even lead a political party.

What a grubby nothing of a person she has revealed herself to be this past week.

I suspect many Jewish Australians would be disgusted by how grossly she has used this tragedy.

Truly pathetic.

The type of performance that has your colleagues start doing the numbers.

Not just stupid, but stupid politics - gives Albanese an easy chance to show himself as a leader and take the high road.

Most voters don't even know who Ley is. So this will be their first impression
Sussan Ley spent the press conference blaming the PM, then turned on Penny Wong. Totally over the top. Not a good look. Disgraceful. #auspol #bondi

Sussan Ley is clearly so far out of her depth that she deserves to be sacked by her party, purely for her own good.

This is perhaps the most contemptible thing any political leader has ever said in this country.

The sooner she f*cks off to obscurity the better for Australia.
